100th anniversary and re-dedication of the Memorial Hall in Kojonup.

A great turn-out and amazing stories of the Light Horse, Cameleers and the battle of Fromelles.

Veterans Assist members Charlie Tasker , Michael Anthony Gilmartin and Stephen Morrow attended to pay our respects and add to the event.

Thanks to shire of Kojonup, Kojonup RSL Sub-branch, 10th Light Horse Albany Troop Inc. and all involved for a very moving service.

Today marks 112 years since Britain declared war on Germany on 4 August 1914, bringing Australia into the First World War.

In 1914 alone, over 50,000 Australians enlisted to serve in support of Britain — and by the end of the war, more than 400,000 Australians had worn the uniform.

As we reflect on this anniversary, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and enduring impact of those who served — and those who waited at home.

Visit the National Anzac Centre to learn more about Australia's involvement in the First World War and the stories of those who served.

A wonderful gathering of our members to raise a glass to honour John Benson, who passed away on Wednesday, 22nd July.

John was a founding member of Veterans Assist after many, many years working with the Albany RSL Sub-branch as a dedicated welfare officer alongside his great friend and colleague Phil Maguire and it was my greatest pleasure during my tenure there to nominate John for Life Membership and to be in attendance when he received that honour.

John, with his years of wisdom and experience held a key position on our Health and Wellbeing Committee providing quiet and gentle guidance as our understanding of what we could do to support veterans and their families developed. He was a regular attendee of our Friday sundowners and Thursday’s Café Anyone and even then, would quietly pass on his knowledge and support when requested.

Those who knew John, know he has been unwell for some time so this news will not come as a shock, however regardless of how well we are prepared, the sadness remains. This office will provide any further updates as they come to hand.
