Do you remember when you first started learning about s*x?

Conversations about s*x, especially as a young person, can be awkward and embarrassing. This is why it's important to provide spaces to have these conversations that are relaxed and free of judgement, where they can ask questions and be themselves.

Recently at MYSA, we did just that! As part of our school holiday program and with help from SHINE SA, we hosted a s*xual health workshop for young men, covering a range of topics from consent and STIs to contraception and s*xual health and everything in between.

The guys even held a competition to put condoms on the biggest objects they could find without tearing them - turns out that condoms are pretty stretchy, so there's no excuse to not wear one 😉

It was wonderful to see so many young men asking questions, learning about consent and taking their s*xual health seriously - we're very proud of them all for taking part 💜

Our school holiday program officially wrapped up yesterday, and what better way to send it off than with puppies 😍

Pooch Yoga visited MYSA yesterday so our young people could spend the morning with some VERY excited nine-week-old Groodles, who were just as keen to meet them as they were to meet the puppies!

The session started with some light stretching and yoga positions but the chaos soon took over as these little balls of fluff bounced around the room from person to person, grabbing hair, clothes, lanyards, phones and anything else they could reach 😂

Dogs are a big part of everyday life in Australia, but many refugee and migrant young people don't have much experience with them. Spending time with dogs in a safe, supportive environment helps them build their confidence, understand dog behaviour and learn how to interact with them safely.

And who knows? It may even spark a love of dogs and lead to them have their very own furry family member one day 💜

If you've ever met a young person, you'll know they've got a lot to say... But importantly, they deserve to be heard!

Last month, our Youth Worker Any and social work student Nish joined students from across SA at the Active Citizenship Convention, talking about leadership, community, inclusion and the issues that matter to them.

Any was thrilled to meet students from across SA, saying that when you encourage young young people share their thoughts, they always bring fresh ideas to the table.

“I think it's important that we support them to maintain that curiosity and willingness to question the world around them. That curiosity is often what drives positive change,” she said.

MYSA joined South Australia’s Active Citizenship Convention, where young people shared ideas and stepped into leadership roles.

Our first week of barista practice for Global Grinds is done and dusted, and... you guys sure do love your coffee!

We didn't anticipate how much love we'd get from the community this week, and as a result we ran out of... well, pretty much everything 😅

The good news is that this was a huge learning experience for us, so we'll be back up and running and pouring more FREE coffees for you next week ☕

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the cart this week, gave us their feedback and stuck by us and we ironed out the wrinkles - we really appreciate it!

We hope you all enjoy your long weekend - we'll catch up for a coffee on Tuesday 🥰

Our first Global Grinds team has been getting ready to take their place behind the coffee cart ☕

Recently, the group completed advanced barista and customer service training, learning everything from preparing coffee and texturing milk to working with customers and as part of a team.

For the young people involved, it’s a chance to gain practical hospitality experience and build skills they can take into their next steps towards employment.

We spoke to Hanad about what he’s learned, what he’s looking forward to and what it’s like getting ready to serve his first customers.

Before Global Grinds opens to the public, we need some taste testers!

Our Global Grinds team has been busy behind the scenes getting ready to serve fresh, quality coffee to the people of Hindley Street. Last week, they took their skills to the next level with advanced barista training, and now it’s time to put them into practice 🥳

From Monday to Friday next week, 9am–2pm, our team will be serving FREE coffee from the MYSA office.

Come grab a coffee, say hello and most importantly, let us know what you think! Your feedback on the coffee and service will help our young people build confidence, fine-tune their skills and make sure Global Grinds starts on the right foot.

Every Monday, we’re challenging some of the common myths surrounding refugees and migrants in Australia and replacing assumptions with facts ✅

There’s a lot of conversation around whether Australia is “tough enough” on migration, but how much do we actually know about what the system requires?

Getting a visa isn’t a free pass. Australia has a detailed migration system with eligibility requirements, background checks and rules that people need to follow throughout their time here.

For people from refugee and migrant backgrounds, these systems can have a huge impact on their lives - from the application process itself to their ability to stay, work and build a future in Australia.
