What’s next for Rewa Wright, our Q&A October guest, is pretty extraordinary.

Selected from more than 800 projects, with just 50 artists globally selected for the 2027 Prague Quadrennial. Between Species: Spectral Signals brings living plant signals into relation with cancer, using PET-CT, MRI and laparoscopic imagery from Rewa’s own leiomyosarcoma diagnosis.

Plant electrical activity, medical imaging, sound and responsive visual systems come together to create a performance environment shaped by vegetal signals, the body and other forms of life.

The work aligns with the Prague Quadrennial performance theme 'Tricky Ghosts' by proposing haunting as an ecological condition: a field of living signals, delayed responses, distributed agencies, and unresolved presences that persist at the edge of perception.

As a computational arts, real time animation, and emerging technologies researcher, Rewa's career is driven by a commitment to exploring the intersection of bleeding edge technologies, creative practice, and critical thinking.

It's WORLD SPACE WEEK and we're celebrating artist and alumnus Dr Anna Madeleine Raupach. In this video of combined constellations, Anna brings together astronomy sky simulations, Starlink coverage and satellite maps to explore the invisible forces shaping our skies.

"This combination of sources also layers the celestial labels with the repetition of Starlink ID numbers. The straight dotted lines show gateway connections between satellites, connecting them in constellation-like shapes. The hexagonal shapes indicate internet coverage in the focus area of Canberra/NSW, but in the way I’ve put the video together they become transparent over land, so the outline of the coast, and Tasmania is visible.

Together it feels like a merging of natural and artificial skies and their combined constellations."

Anna's 2022 ANAT Synapse residency was hosted by the ANU Research School of Astrophysics and Astronomy (RSAA) at Mount Stromlo Observatory, Anna’s project combined creative practice with methods of observational astronomy to investigate the growing impacts and potential mitigation strategies of human-caused space pollution.

Anna Madeleine Raupach is a multidisciplinary artist based on Ngunnawal and Ngambri land, Canberra, who explores expressive interpretations of scientific concepts. Her current practice focuses on alternative forms of temporality related to climate change.

TODAY in Austria, the latest iteration of Chris Henschke's CERN Synapse Fellowship experiment, Beyond the Quantum Horizon.

No other artist has engaged so thoroughly with the scientific work at CERN as Chris Henschke. In numerous projects he has repeatedly found new ways to make the complex and often elusive research content perceptible to the senses. Central to this was the work of the four particle detectors measuring the collisions in the Large Hadron Collider. The new audiovisual work Beyond the Quantum Horizon, for which Chris Henschke found inspiration during the SciArt Dialogue Week 2026, marks a turning point. The question of how a particle collision is possible in the first place led the artist to explore quantum fields.

This project was supported by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its arts funding and advisory body. In cooperation with ORF musikprotokoll, art@CMS/ORIGIN, CERN – European Organization for Nuclear Research (with the experiments ATLAS – A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS, ALICE – A Large Ion Collider Experiment, CMS – Compact Muon Solenoid, LHCb – Large Hadron Collider beauty, and IdeaSquare – Innovation Space at CERN), University of Graz (Department of Arts and Musicology and interdisciplinary core research area “Perception: Episteme, Aesthetics, Politics” at the Faculty of Humanities), University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Institute 11 Stage Design), HEPHY – Institute for High Energy Physics of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Vienna), Florida State University, The University of Alabama, RMIT University.

Artist and ANAT alumnus Eugenie Lee is a CripQueer autistic Korean Australian experimental artist whose work draws on lived experience to explore complex and often stigmatised aspects of identity and wellbeing.

In this video, Eugenie discusses ANAT Bespoke :: AJUMMA [Ah-Joom-Mah] WELLBEING CLINIC, an Arts and Disability Initiative-supported project that reimagines menopause and Korean ajumma identity through art, science and cross-cultural collaboration.

Eugenie reflects on how the funding helped bring together her large diverse team of collaborators and supported the early research and development of an ambitious, multi-stage creative work.

FINAL CALL for applications to the 2027 ANAT Synapse residency program. ANAT welcomes submissions from Australian artists who work in any genre with conceptual aims that intersect and deeply engage with science and/or technology.

The program brings artists and researchers together in partnerships that generate new knowledge, ideas and processes beneficial beyond both fields. A distinguishing feature of the residencies is their creative research focus, with applicants supported in collaborative experimentation rather than anticipating or producing specific outcomes.

The featured imagery offers a glimpse into the research of our 2026 ANAT Synapse resident, composer Elissa Goodrich, who, in collaboration with Professor Richard Manasseh and the fluid dynamics team at Swinburne University of Technology, is investigating how bubbles can tell stories of turbulence, transformation and connection. Revealing how bubbles formed by breaking waves play a major role in absorbing some of humanity's CO₂ emissions.

"More than bring the sound and compositional ideas ‘into the room’, at Te Whare Hera, I could play with and to the sea, its bubbles and waves! The studio directly overlooked the sea, at the very end-point of the harbour."
2026 ANAT Synapse resident Elissa Goodrich

Elissa has been undertaking creative collaborative guest residencies, exploring and experimenting with ANAT’s Turbulent Trajectories materials as part of Dr Gabby O’Connor’s Ocean Collab Lab in Te Whare Hera, Wellington, New Zealand.

WATCH :: 2026 Micro Talk Recording

Following on from the live online event in August, you can now watch the recording of the latest ANAT Micro Talk featuring Australian Antarctic Arts Fellows Dr David Bridie and Dr Polly Stanton in conversation with ANAT CEO Melissa DeLaney.

Together, they explored the creative possibilities of one of the world’s most extraordinary environments and how Antarctica continues to shape their artistic practice.

The Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship holds a unique and esteemed place in Australia’s creative landscape. Since 1984, it has provided Australian artists with the rare opportunity to travel to and experience Antarctica, fostering creative responses to one of the world’s most extraordinary and significant environments. The Fellowship is supported by the Australian Antarctic Program, Australian Antarctic Division of the Australian Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, with additional support provided by ANAT since 2017.

"The work of Radical Scoops has never been to arrive with one clean answer. It has been to make a form people can enter, use and change.

The milk crates did that first.

Now the whole site is starting to do it.

We began by asking how art might carry the timber, dairy and co-operative histories of this part of the Blackall Range without turning them into decoration.

The answer is becoming less like an object and more like a public rhythm".

Excerpt from Nicholas Marchesi and Benjamin Knight's Radical Scoops Creative Research Journal.

Set in Witta and across the Sunshine Coast Hinterland on Kabi Kabi and Jinibara Country, Radical Scoops brings together the agriculture industry and local collaborators to reimagine how creativity can strengthen community connection across regional supply chains.
