Let's put $96mil into Street racing but take $300k away from Vulnerable and disadvantaged children as Second Chances looses its funding for the only organisation looking after children of prisoners....

I think the SA Government and Peter Malinauskas need to take a long hard look at where their values lie....

1. THE CYCLE CAN CROSS GENERATIONS

21% of people entering an Australian prison had a parent or carer imprisoned during their childhood.

Behind every person who enters prison is a family — and often, children who have done nothing wrong.
When a parent is imprisoned, children can experience separation, trauma, financial hardship, disrupted schooling, housing instability and stigma. These experiences can have lasting consequences.

The concern is not simply what happens to a child while their parent is in prison. It is what happens afterwards.
Children exposed to disadvantage and the justice system can face increased risks of becoming involved with the system themselves.

This doesn't mean a child is destined to follow their parent's path.
It means early support matters.
At Second Chances, we believe children should not be defined by the choices of their parents. They deserve someone to walk alongside them, listen to them, support them and help them see that their future can be different.
The cycle can cross generations — but so can hope.

This issue is still ongoing and no responses have been made by the SA Government. Shadow Ministers have been very helpful in trying to get answers but we would really like to speak to Peter Malinauskas about this tragedy.

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN
GOVERNMENT THROWS 147 CHILDREN OUT IN THE DARK AND COLD.

VULNERABLE CHILDREN, PRISONERS AND FAMILIES LEFT WITHOUT SUPPORT!

The Department for Human Services has decided that it was a good idea to cut funding to a specialised cohort of people to provide services to, the Family Support Team have been providing services to vulnerable and disadvantaged children who have parents in prison for over 10 years.

The Department states that they will shut the program down on 31 December 2026 citing budget constraints.
