85 Years Since the Battle of Crete ๐
This week, members of the Cretan Association of South Australia were proud to take part in the 85th Anniversary commemorations of the Battle of Crete, attending a special assembly at alongside official guests from Greece and representatives of the Greek Australian community.
We were honoured to be joined by Lieutenant General Konstantinos Bouzos, along with First Lieutenant Eleni Theodorou, Head of the External Affairs Department, Directorate of Public Relations, HNDGS; Staff Officer Lamprini Kokkori, International Affairs Directorate, HNDGS; Colonel Kyriakos Kyriakakos, Defence Attachรฉ to the Embassy of Greece in Australia; Mr Emmanuel Mountakis, President of the Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand, accompanied by his wife; Mr Panteli Fridakis, President of the Cretan Association of South Australia; and Dr Alexandra Theodoropoulos, Greek Consul General of South Australia.
It was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the bravery, sacrifice, and resilience shown during one of the most significant moments in Cretan history, while also seeing younger generations continue to honour and celebrate our culture through music, dance, and community spirit.
The commemorations continued into the evening with a dinner gathering at Meze Mazi, where members of our dance group Panos Constantinou and Panayioti Koliakoudakis provided live Cretan music, helping create a memorable night filled with tradition, music, and pride.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in organising and supporting these commemorations.
