In 2006, Nobel Laureate and former US Vice President Al Gore got the world talking about climate change with the Academy Award-winning film An Inconvenient Truth. Later that year, he founded what would become The Climate Reality Project to move the conversation forward and turn awareness into action all across the Earth. 💰Fossil fuel companies are banking on the crisis - once again!

📈 Oil & gas companies didn’t earn colossal profits through innovation or hard work. They’re cashing in on a war.

✅️ Solution is there: An EU-wide tax on the colossal profits of the fossil fuel companies. A fair and effective way to lower our energy bills now & prep for future crises.

💸 You and I did not cause this crisis, but we are paying for it. Let’s change that & make the polluters pay!

There are only 3,000 signatures missing to the target of 25,000. The petition will be sent to President Macron (G7 President, France), Minister Murat Kurum (COP 31 President, Türkiye), Minister Chris Bowen (COP 31 President of Negotiations, Australia), and all governments.

Clean energy is no longer the future - it’s the present!

Most (approx. 90%) of new electricity infrastructure built worldwide in 2024 was renewable energy. Solar, wind, and battery storage continue to become cheaper every year, making the transition away from fossil fuels not only necessary, but practical and achievable.

During the Global Week of Action (June 1–7), Climate Reality Leaders across the world are mobilizing to call for faster local action on clean energy and climate solutions.

Communities facing rising costs, pollution, and climate impacts deserve affordable, accessible clean energy - and local governments have an important role to play in making this happen.

This week (June 1-7) Climate Reality Leaders and supporters across more than 50 locations worldwide are coming together for the Global Week of Action 🌍

Why? Because the climate crisis is a fossil fuels crisis - and clean energy is already the cheapest and fastest-growing source of new electricity worldwide.

Throughout the week, people around the world will:

🎉 BIG NEWS: The UN Jjust backed climate justice!

After years of petitions, protests, and advocacy, civil society has secured a huge win: 141 countries at the UN voted to affirm that climate action is a legal obligation for all nations!

This resolution - rooted in the International Court of Justice’s 2025 advisory opinion on climate change - is already shaping climate lawsuits worldwide. And here’s the best part: Our Branch played a role! We contacted key European governments to urge them to vote YES, and they listened.

More than 50 cities worldwide already have planned in-person petition deliveries to mayors and local authorities during our upcoming Global Week of Action (June 1-7) - turning signatures into real conversations with decision-makers.

Cities shape the air we breathe, the energy we use, the transport we rely on, and how prepared we are for climate impacts. Residents deserve cities that are cleaner, fairer, healthier, and more resilient.

While people across Europe struggle with rising living costs, droughts, heatwaves, floods, and energy insecurity, governments are still pouring billions of public money into coal, oil, and gas.

Our money.

Money that could support affordable public transport, cleaner air, insulated homes, renewable energy, or communities already facing climate impacts.

Instead, it continues to subsidise the very industry driving the crisis.

Governments already acknowledged this contradiction through initiatives like COFFIS (Coalition on Phasing Out Fossil Fuel Incentives Including Subsidies), the coalition to phase out fossil fuel subsidies. But acknowledgements are not enough. The longer fossil fuel subsidies continue, the longer the transition is delayed.

Ending fossil fuel subsidies is one of the fastest and most concrete steps governments can take to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels.

Almost one month after the Santa Marta Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels, one announcement continues to stand out: France unveiled a national roadmap to phase out fossil fuels.

The roadmap signals a shift from general climate commitments toward practical implementation - one of the key objectives of the Santa Marta process, which brought together 57 countries and the EU to accelerate the transition away from coal, oil, and gas.

The conference launched work on:
⚡ national transition roadmaps
🌍 fossil-fuel-free trade and investment systems
💰 financial reforms to support the energy transition

At a time of rising geopolitical instability and fossil fuel price volatility, Santa Marta reinforced a growing reality: transitioning away from fossil fuels is not only a climate imperative, but also a question of economic resilience and energy security.

And if we want to accelerate this transition, we also need to stop financing the problem. Every year, billions in public money still support fossil fuels across Europe.

Governments around the world still spend over 1 trillion USD every year supporting fossil fuels - through direct subsidies and price support.

If broader costs like air pollution and climate impacts are included, the total rises to around 7 trillion USD globally.

This public funding shapes energy systems - and can either slow down or accelerate the transition.

That’s why a group of countries launched COFFIS in 2023, committing to phase out fossil fuel subsidies.

But progress has been limited so far.
This is a moment to move from commitment to implementation.
