The Climate Reality Project Europe

The Climate Reality Project Europe This is the official page of the European Branch of The Climate Reality Project. It was just the beginning of a climate revolution.

In 2006, Nobel Laureate and former US Vice President Al Gore got the world talking about climate change with the Academy Award-winning film An Inconvenient Truth. Later that year, he founded what would become The Climate Reality Project to move the conversation forward and turn awareness into action all across the Earth. Today, as Climate Reality, we’re a diverse group of passionate individuals wh

o’ve come together to solve the greatest challenge of our time. We are activists, cultural leaders, organizers, scientists, and storytellers committed to building a sustainable future together.

Do you know what your city is actually doing about climate change?

Cities have climate plans, targets and commitments - but what do they mean in practice? What actions are being taken, who is affected, and how can we hold local leaders accountable?

Join our Cities in Transition: Getting Started workshop on 16th of September to explore the climate plan of your city and learn how to ask the right questions.

You don't need to be a climate expert or arrive with all the answers. The workshop will give you the tools to start investigating what your city has committed to and what it is doing in practice.

Why now? Last June, Climate Reality Leaders organised almost 80 events around the world, engaging city officials and communities in local climate action. Zero Emissions Day on 21 September will be another opportunity to engage local leaders. Join the workshop to start exploring your city's climate action and get ideas you can take into the September 21 mobilisation.

Dear Mayors: our cities are ready for clean, affordable energy⌚

Energy bills are rising. Climate impacts are intensifying. But our neighbourhoods, districts, and whole cities have another choice: a future powered by clean, affordable energy.

That's why we're asking mayors and city leaders to make the clean energy transition a priority in our towns and cities.

Now, we need your voice.

Across the Climate Reality network and beyond, we're collecting signatures and mobilizing people to bring this message to their own cities. On September 21, Zero Emissions Day, Climate Reality Leaders and members of our network will take the petition to local decision-makers and ask them to act.

The more voices we bring, the harder it is to ignore.

✍️ Sign the Dear Mayors petition - and share it with your community: https://www.climaterealityproject.org/act/dear-mayors

Renewable energy alone won't guarantee climate justice.

How do we ensure the transition away from fossil fuels doesn't repeat old patterns of exploitation? How can we protect communities affected by mining, energy infrastructure and unequal access to clean energy?

These are some of the questions we'll explore during our session on a Just Energy Transition.

Because climate action should improve people's lives - not leave them behind.

Join us this October.

Want to make a difference but not sure where to start?

Real change doesn't only happen at climate summits. It happens in neighbourhoods, schools, workplaces and cities—where people come together to solve shared challenges.

Our Climate Justice Training will help you identify local climate injustices, understand your community and develop a practical project that responds to real needs.

Because tackling global injustices starts locally.

Climate Reality's 2025 Annual Impact Report is out - and we're proud to see the Europe Branch featured throughout it.

Last year, together with Climate Reality Leaders across Europe, we helped turn climate ambition into action:
🌍 Trained nearly 800 new Climate Reality Leaders at the Paris REALITY® Tour training.
🏙️ Launched our new city-based Climate Hubs, supporting local communities to strengthen climate action where they live.
✉️ Sent hundreds of letters calling on the EU and national governments to align climate targets with the Paris Agreement and accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels.
⚡ Helped advance campaigns that contributed to Katowice, a coal capital in Poland, joining the Powering Past Coal Alliance and to stopping new oil and gas developments such as Rosebank in the UK.
💶 Pushed international financial institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, toward stronger climate finance commitments.
📮 Joined thousands of advocates worldwide in calling for COP reform and limiting fossil fuel industry influence at international climate negotiations.

These achievements are part of an even bigger global story. In 2025, Climate Reality:
🌐trained more than 3,400 new Climate Reality Leaders,
🌐supported the passage of 21 climate laws and policies,
🌐helped push international development banks to strengthen their climate finance commitments, contributing to more than $73 billion in climate finance in 2025.
🌐continued building a global movement now 4.5 million people strong.

None of this would have been possible without the dedication of Climate Reality Leaders, volunteers, partners, and supporters across Europe.

Climate change doesn't affect everyone equally - and neither do its solutions.

Climate justice means making sure the transition to a sustainable future leaves no one behind. It asks who is most affected, who has a voice, and how we can build fairer communities together.

This October, join Climate Reality Europe's fifth From Awareness to Action training and explore how to turn these questions into meaningful local action.

🏗️ The future isn't built by good ideas alone - it’s built by the decisions about where money goes.

Every investment helps shape the world we'll live in: more fossil fuels or more renewable energy, more pollution or cleaner air, more climate risk or greater resilience.

You'll hear from experts, explore real-world examples, and gain practical knowledge to become a more effective advocate for clean energy in your community.

A strong ETS for industrial renewal? YES if you ask the Europeans.

📊A new European poll by YouGov shows that 7 out of 10 European citizens think biggest polluters and climate laggards should pay more

Key findings:
❗A majority of 59% across EU countries think energy-intensive industry should pay for its CO2 emissions
❗Climate action is wanted well beyond the “green electorate” as people say big polluters should pay, even among those who have voted for parties calling against a strong ETS!
❗Climate action should be awarded, as seven in ten Europeans (72%) say biggest polluters and climate laggards should pay more
❗Europeans want carbon revenues to be invested in decarbonisation rather than continue free allowances. Any remaining free allowances should be made conditional on investing in real climate action and just transition majorities say (62% and 63% respectively).

The poll results challenge the calls to rollback EU ETS. EU politicians and national policymakers should listen to the will of European citizens:
👉 Preserve a robust carbon price for industry
👉 Keep the phase-out of free allowances on track and invest revenues in decarbonisation
👉 Place conditionalities on any remaining free allowances
