Great things happen when partners work together. 🇬🇧🤝🇦🇱

This week, together with colleagues from Britské velvyslanectví v Praze - British Embassy Prague ,BIST IM Europe, and the British Chamber of Commerce in Albania (BCCA) we met with Albanian businesses. Happy to have explored together new opportunities of collaboration between our two countries. 📈

✅ Next, we're working on promotional events and business missions to showcase British products in Albania. We'll also look at introductions between UK and Albanian businesses, and other ways to work together.

BCCA, together with other business organizations in Albania, has expressed its opposition to the Government’s draft law on the “National Economic Chamber,” particularly the proposed mandatory registration requirement, which the organizations consider to restrict businesses’ freedom of choice.

The draft law has been reintroduced for the third time since 2016, prompting business organizations once again to coordinate and reaffirm their common position. They have emphasized that the existence of independent business organizations and voluntary membership is an important element of pluralism in business representation. Businesses should retain the freedom to choose the organization through which they wish their interests to be represented.

In their joint position, the business organizations have also noted that the proposed reform does not arise from a specific requirement under the EU acquis communautaire, nor is it supported by a sufficiently comprehensive, evidence-based analysis demonstrating the need for a fundamental restructuring of the current system of business representation. Furthermore, the draft law does not provide a clear list of the services that businesses would receive in return for the proposed mandatory fees.
