Innovation for the Blind is very proud to be part of a special exhibition that opened at the Worcester Museum on 3 September 2026.
The exhibit centres on accessibility, inclusion, and Worcesterโs longstanding relationship with the blind, Deaf, and disabled communities. The programme brought together three interconnected initiatives: ALMAL se Stoepstories, the opening of the new Worcester, as a Place of Care exhibition, and the opening of a mini library for blind and visually impaired readers.
ALMAL se Stoepstories is an oral history initiative that creates a platform for people to share their own lived experiences. The programme brought together Deaf, hearing, blind and seeing people to speak about communication, accessibility, inclusion and belonging.
Reverend Betty Wanza and Pastor Hennie Burger of the Dowe Familiekerk, Mr Dirkie Ebersohn of the National Institute for the Deaf, Ms Sharon Goosen from Innovation for the Blind and Mr Dries Burger shared experiences relating to family, education, work, independence and community, as well as some of the barriers and misconceptions experienced by Deaf and blind people.
The new Worcester, as a Place of Care exhibition explores Worcesterโs distinctive history as a centre of education, care, and opportunity for blind, Deaf and disabled people.
