Another great day of community action!

Today, 60 volunteers came together for our neighbourhood clean-up, giving their time and energy to make a visible difference in our community.

From painting a neighbour’s house in Gamanda and a boundary wall in Common Street, to sweeping Witbooi Street, Gallant Street and the area around Walmer Lower Primary School, there was plenty of work happening across the neighbourhood.

These clean-ups are about more than removing litter. They’re about taking shared responsibility for the spaces we live in and showing what can happen when a community works together.

A big thank you to everyone who joined and helped out today!

Building stronger grassroots organisations

Today, mCon hosted an Introduction to NPO Management training, bringing together representatives from 15 grassroots organisations.

The session focused on the practical foundations needed to run an organisation effectively, from understanding roles and responsibilities to strengthening governance, administration and day-to-day management.

Grassroots organisations play an important role in responding directly to needs in their communities. Through practical training and ongoing support, mCon helps strengthen the systems behind this work so that organisations can operate more effectively and sustainably.

Tailor-made support for stronger ECD services

Through mCon, local ECDC practitioners receive one-on-one coaching and mentoring based on the specific needs of their centres.

The support is practical and individualised, helping practitioners strengthen areas such as daily operations, administration, programme quality, child-centred practice and organisational development.

By working directly with each practitioner on the challenges they face, mCon helps improve the quality and consistency of services provided to young children and their families.

Growing skills, responsibility and a greener school environment 🌱

Our Grade 5 have been getting their hands dirty in the garden, learning how to plant, care for vegetables and understand where food comes from.

Gardening gives learners practical skills while also building patience, teamwork and responsibility. As the garden grows, so does their understanding of how small, consistent actions can create positive change.

Meet the guest speakers for our upcoming mCon Luncheon on Monitoring & Evaluation!

This session brings together two experienced voices in research, impact measurement and data-driven decision-making:

Dr Shepherd Mutangabende heads the Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department at masifunde. He brings more than a decade of experience across academia, government and the non-profit sector. His work focuses on programme evaluation, impact assessment, research and using evidence to strengthen programmes and organisational learning.

Meyer Conradie, Founder and CEO of Mosaic Community Developments and Mosaic Equity, and founder of the impact measurement platform Wellbi, has extensive experience in social impact measurement, organisational development and supporting NPOs to use beneficiary data more effectively.

Together, they will explore how NPOs can move beyond simply collecting data and use Monitoring & Evaluation as a practical tool to understand impact, improve programmes and make better decisions with limited resources.

We look forward to a valuable and practical discussion with organisations working to strengthen their impact.

Yesterday, our Grade 6 visited Ubuntu Pathways, where they took part in an educational workshop focused on personal hygiene and puberty.

The workshop was facilitated by a professional nurse, who provided learners with valuable and age-appropriate information about the importance of maintaining good hygiene, as well as the different stages and characteristics of puberty. Learners had the opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the physical and emotional changes they may experience during this stage of their development.

The visit provided a safe and informative space for our learners to engage with an experienced healthcare professional and gain the knowledge and confidence they need to navigate puberty in a healthy and informed way.

Our Grade 9 recently visited the Volkswagen plant in Uitenhage as part of an excursion focused on exploring career possibilities within the automotive industry.

The experience gave learners an opportunity to gain insight into the world of automotive manufacturing. They toured the industrial section of the plant, where they were able to see first-hand how vehicles are produced and learn more about the different roles and career opportunities within the industry.

Following the factory tour, learners also had the opportunity to explore the VW AutoPavilion, a museum showcasing the history and development of the automotive industry. The excursion provided an engaging combination of learning and hands-on experience, helping learners connect their classroom learning with real-world career possibilities.

💻 Small hands, important skills!

Computer time is always an exciting part of the week at our Laveli'Langa Montessori Pre-School!

Through regular, age-appropriate computer classes, our children learn how to use technology through exploring, clicking, navigating and completing simple activities independently.

Why start this young? Because digital skills will be part of almost every stage of their education. Regular access now helps children build confidence, coordination and problem-solving skills, while making technology something familiar rather than something new or intimidating later on.

Another skill our little learners are taking with them on their journey to big school!
