masifunde's work is driven by the vision of a united society in which everyone is empowered through high-quality education to participate pro-actively and confidently in societal issues and thereby in

itiating positive change in their own lives and the lives of others. Our Mission
Our services include high-quality programmes for learners from three to 32 years of age. What makes our work unique is that our approach always centers around the individual - for all age groups. The interventions are always holistic, trying to take into account all aspects of the children and youth in our programmes: home and social environment, different forms of education, personal growth and individual talents and interests. We believe firmly in peer-education: That's why most of our activities work towards outreach events which activate our learners to share their findings within their social environment. This ensures that our programmes have a community-wide footprint and contribute systematically to the creation of an active civil society within Walmer Township and beyond

Over the past years, we have developed and successfully tested our community development models. Today, we proudly see components of our work being used as best practice and showcase examples. Our work in Walmer Township is open source and we gladly share it with and show it to interested stakeholders from various fields. Like-minded NGOs are most welcome to contact us to become implementation and replication partner of programme components.

We are home!

After an unforgettable two-week tour through Germany, the Masifunde Youth Choir has safely returned to Gqeberha and Walmer Township.

Our hearts are filled with gratitude. Thank you to everyone who made this journey possible: our sponsors and funders, partner organisations, host families, church congregations, parents, and the entire Masifunde team. Thank you to everyone who kept us in their prayers and thoughts throughout the tour.

A special thank you to everyone who came to the airport to welcome us home with such warmth and emotion. We were honoured to be welcomed by the Principal of Walmer High School, Siyanda Sitsheke, and the Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay, Cllr Babalwa Lobishe.

Over the past two weeks, our young people proudly represented their community, their city, and South Africa on amazing stages. The memories, friendships, and experiences gained will stay with them for a lifetime.

Thank you for believing in our youth and for being part of this incredible journey.

📍 Today, our team had the opportunity to connect with young people at the Career Expo hosted by the Eastern Cape Department of Social Development at the Walmer Multi-Purpose Centre.

We shared information about masifunde’s Out-of-School Youth Centre and the support available to unemployed youth aged 16–34 living in Walmer.

Through our Get Ahead Programme, young people can access:
✅ Life skills and personal development training
✅ Job readiness support, including CV creation and interview preparation
✅ One-on-one coaching and mentoring
✅ Skills training and vocational opportunities
✅ Entrepreneurship support for those wanting to start their own businesses

Our goal is simple: to help young people build confidence, develop skills, and access opportunities that can lead to employment, further learning, or self-employment.

“Young people are part of the solution, not part of the problem.” – This statement by our founder, Jonas Schumacher, lies at the heart of Masifunde, and it resonated especially strongly on 12 June. 🇿🇦✨

At the very first Masifunde Charity Dinner, held at “The Blasky” overlooking the Frankfurt skyline, we celebrated with more than 80 guests the impact and purpose that have driven our work for over 20 years.

One of the evening’s highlights was the performance of the Masifunde Youth Choir from Walmer Township, whose powerful voices captivated everyone in the room. 🎶

A heartfelt thank you to First Lady Elke Büdenbender and our patron Brigitte Zypries () for their support, encouragement, and belief in our vision. Their presence made this evening even more meaningful.

All proceeds from the event will directly support our programmes in Walmer Township, where we work alongside 450 young people every day, creating opportunities and empowering future leaders.

Beim ersten Masifunde Charity Dinner im „The Blasky“ über den Dächern von Frankfurt feierten wir gemeinsam mit mehr als 80 Gästen die Wirkung und den Sinn unserer Arbeit, die Masifunde seit über 20 Jahren prägen.

Ein besonderes Highlight des Abends war der Auftritt des Masifunde Youth Choir aus dem Walmer Township. Mit seinen beeindruckenden Stimmen zog der Chor das gesamte Publikum in seinen Bann. 🎶

Ein herzliches Dankeschön an First Lady Elke Büdenbender und unsere Schirmfrau Brigitte Zypries () für ihre Unterstützung, ihr Vertrauen und ihren Glauben an unsere Vision. Ihre Anwesenheit hat diesen Abend noch bedeutungsvoller gemacht.

Der gesamte Erlös der Veranstaltung fließt direkt in unsere Programme im Walmer Township, wo wir täglich 450 junge Menschen begleiten, Chancen schaffen und zukünftige Führungspersönlichkeiten stärken.

🎶🇿🇦🇩🇪 Our Masifunde Youth Choir recently visited Bad Arolsen, Germany.

Together with the Youth and Chamber Choir of the Christian Rauch School, the young singers performed a concert at the city's Catholic church. The programme featured traditional South African songs, contemporary choral music, and several joint performances by both choirs.

Beyond the music, the visit was all about cultural exchange. During their stay, the Masifunde youth lived with host families, experienced everyday life in Germany, and built new connections with their peers.

A big thank you to the Christian Rauch School, the host families, and everyone in Bad Arolsen who made the visit possible and gave our group such a warm welcome.

🎶🇿🇦🇩🇪 Unser Masifunde Jugendchor war zu Gast in Bad Arolsen.

Gemeinsam mit dem Jugend- und Kammerchor der Christian-Rauch-Schule gestalteten die Jugendlichen ein Konzert in der katholischen Kirche der Stadt. Auf dem Programm standen traditionelle südafrikanische Lieder, moderne Chormusik und gemeinsame Beiträge beider Chöre.

Neben den musikalischen Auftritten stand vor allem der Austausch im Mittelpunkt. Während ihres Aufenthalts lebten die Jugendlichen in Gastfamilien, lernten den Alltag ihrer Gastgeber:innen kennen und knüpften neue Kontakte.

Vielen Dank an die Christian-Rauch-Schule, die Gastfamilien und alle Unterstützer:innen in Bad Arolsen für die herzliche Aufnahme und einen gelungenen Abend voller Musik und Begegnung.
