ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT | FUNEKA SHUPING

We are pleased to announce Funeka Shuping, a Soweto-born South African abstract artist, as a participating artist in the Melville Mzansi Art Expo 2026.

Shuping’s practice explores colour, texture, nature and memory, with bees serving as recurring symbols of community, discipline and creation. His distinctive use of earthy tones and vibrant colour reflects a practice deeply connected to place, identity and possibility.

🇫🇷🎨A Meaningful Conversation About the Future of Art

The Hippopcorn Foundation had the pleasure of meeting with Alison Polley-Green from the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) for an inspiring discussion around the arts, creativity, and cultural exchange.

We are grateful for the opportunity to connect and share the vision behind the Melville Mzansi Art Expo 2026. We are also excited to welcome the French Institute of South Africa as one of the institutions that will be attending this year's expo on 26 September 2026.

This meeting marks an important step in building relationships that celebrate artistic excellence and create opportunities for South African creatives.

Thank you, Polley-Green, for the warm and engaging conversation. We look forward to welcoming you to the Melville Mzansi Art Expo 2026.

The future of African art is brighter when we connect, collaborate, and celebrate creativity together.
