Could breast cancer run in families? When should you consider genetic testing?

This Saturday, we are pleased to welcome Monica Araujo, Genetic Counsellor, to our Bosom Buddies support group meeting, where she will be discussing genetics and breast cancer.

Monica will explore inherited cancer risk, family history and genetic testing, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions in a supportive and welcoming environment.

As always, Bosom Buddies is a space to connect with others who understand the realities of breast cancer. Whether you come with questions, experiences of your own, or would simply prefer to listen, you are warmly welcome.

We are delighted to welcome John Comninos and Evy Michalopoulos to tonight's Breast Health Foundation webinar, Hoping for the Best, Planning for the Rest.

Have you ever wondered:
Do I actually need a will?
What happens if I don't have one?
How do I make sure my wishes are respected?
What planning should be in place for my children or partner?
What's the difference between a will, a living will, and an advance directive?

These are some of the practical questions we will be exploring this evening with John and Evy, alongside Prof Carol-Ann Benn, Dr Margie Venter, and Dr Penelope Mathe.

This will be a conversation about creating peace of mind for yourself and the people you love.

MYTH OR FACT?
β€œIf I have no family history of breast cancer, I cannot get it.”

The truth? Many women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history at all.

That is why knowing your personal risk matters.

Last year, 9,285 South Africans took our Breast Health Awareness Assessment, learning more about breast health, breast self-examination, and the importance of early detection.

Now, with Phylaxis.ai, we are taking the next step.

Introducing the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment β€” a free, easy-to-use tool that helps you better understand your personal risk based on factors like family history, hormonal influences, lifestyle, and screening history.

In just a few minutes, you will receive a personalised report you can use to guide important conversations with your healthcare provider.

Because in South Africa, too many women are still diagnosed when breast cancer is already at a late stage. Knowledge gives you the power to act earlier.

Plus, you could stand a chance to win your share of R20 000 β€” not once, but twice!

Join us tomorrow for our Bosom Buddies support group meeting.

This month, we are doing something a little different β€” an open Q&A with Louise Turner.

Louise is a 22-year breast cancer survivor, a 15-year cervical cancer survivor, and Director of the Breast Health Foundation. She brings not only professional insight, but lived experience, honesty, and deep understanding of what this journey can feel like.

If there is something you have been wondering about, something you have been carrying quietly, or questions you have never quite known who to ask β€” this is your space.

Or, if you would simply like to come and listen, that is just as welcome.
