In 2013, a group of high school learners at Realogile High School in Alexandra refused to let the devastating grip of local substance abuse erode their classrooms. Without requesting a budget, they activated their Awareness and Creativity to launch a grassroots movement called GOENDA. These teenagers didn’t just run a school project; they built an empire of accountability, mobilizing five high schools across Alexandra to stand together, eventually taking their raw voices straight to a global TEDx stage. Today, at 28 years old, Rose is the Managing Director and Co-Founder of Arcael Recruitment. The exact same values of Integrity, Perseverance, and Service she engineered to fight substance abuse in Alex are the strategic executive tools she uses to build her enterprise today. Ramatsekane Nkone is living proof that a schoolyard doesn’t define a child’s destiny. Growing up in a deeply under-resourced Free State township , Ramatsekane discovered what he calls “collective ownership”. He didn’t just attend a leadership camp; he got his hands dirty leading a massive campaign to manage his school’s feeding scheme and physically dug into the earth to plant 200 trees. The exact Awareness, Creativity, and Perseverance it took to transform his high school grounds are the core technical and leadership tools carrying him through his second year of Mechatronics Engineering at UCT today. Sithengile Secondary School learners are proving that breaking the silence is the first step toward safety. 🛡️✊

The fear of “speaking out” is keeping our learners in the dark. This week, the leaders of Sithengile Secondary decided that the silence is too loud. They took their voices to the streets and into the classrooms of local primary schools like Christianenburg Primary.

Their message was loud and clear, from youth voices to placards: “No child should ever have to carry the weight of harassment alone.” 🤐🚫

Seeing high school learners stand as shields for primary schoolers, backed by the SAPS, the CPF, and their teachers, is a powerful reminder that leadership isn’t about power. it’s about the Courage to protect the vulnerable when it’s easier to stay quiet. 🗣️🙌

It started with a walk, but with Perseverance, a culture of safety continues the journey in our communities to protect the dignity of every child.
