BETTER TOGETHER: HILTON COLLEGE Γ LOVE UMNGENI
What happens when a school sees its community not just as somewhere it lives, but somewhere it can actively help build?
Recently, students from Hilton College joined forces with Love uMngeni, rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in practical projects making a difference across our community.
Students helped to:
* π Create educational resources for our EduProject, supporting learning in under-resourced schools.
* β»οΈ Make rag-bags from discarded fabric β turning waste into a useful product now sold through local hardware stores.
* π Sort donations and stock shelves at our Street Store, helping restore dignity and access to essentials.
* π± Landscape and improve local parks and our police station, creating public spaces our community can be proud of.
But the real impact goes beyond what was made, sorted, planted or packed.
In a country like South Africa, we need young people who understand that leadership is not only something learned in a classroom β it is something practised in community.
When schools connect students to the real needs, assets and opportunities around them, young people develop empathy, responsibility, creativity and a belief that they have something meaningful to contribute.
And when organisations, schools and communities work together, we begin to break down the divides that too often define our country.
This is the kind of education South Africa needs: young people learning not simply to succeed in the world, but to make the world around them better.
A huge thank you to Hilton College and its students for choosing to show up, serve and build alongside us.
Stronger schools. Engaged young people. Thriving communities. Better together. π
