What a fantastic evening bringing together our Kearsney Old Boys in London!

It was wonderful to see such a well-supported gathering, with Old Boys spanning generations coming together to reconnect, catch up, share memories and celebrate the lifelong bond that connects us all.

Our Headmaster, Mr Patrick Lees, shared an update on the College, giving everyone an insight into how Kearsney is doing, what's happening on campus and what lies ahead. There was plenty of reminiscing, laughter and the opportunity to make new connections.

We were particularly delighted to welcome such a wonderful range of Old Boys, from our oldest attendee, Peter Crossley (Finningley, 1974), to our youngest, James Kewley (Gillingham, 2022). A true celebration of the Kearsney brotherhood across generations!

And a special mention to those who proudly wore their Old Boy ties – always wonderful to see that Kearsney connection on display!

A heartfelt thank you to Geoff Sibbald for bringing everyone together and organising such a memorable evening, and to all the Old Boys who attended and made the evening such a success. Your enthusiasm, support and continued connection to Kearsney are what make this brotherhood so special.

Here's to strengthening these connections, sharing more stories and continuing to grow our Old Boy network in the UK.

A GENEROUS GESTURE THAT REFLECTS THE TRUE SPIRIT OF KEARSNEY

Academic excellence is an achievement worth celebrating, but the character behind that achievement is what truly sets a person apart.

Yusuf Badat, Kearsney’s Dux Scholar for 2026 and recipient of multiple awards at our recent Speech Night and Awards Evening, was awarded a monetary prize of R2,300. In a wonderfully selfless gesture, Yusuf has chosen to donate the full amount to Kearsney’s Scholarship and Bursary Fund, helping to create opportunities for other boys.

After years of dedication and hard work, Yusuf thoroughly deserved the recognition he received. Yet, in choosing to give his prize to others, he demonstrated something even more meaningful: kindness, generosity and a genuine desire to make a difference.

It is the first time we have witnessed a gesture of this kind, but for those who know Yusuf, it will come as no surprise. His actions reflect the values we strive to instil in every Kearsney boy: integrity, humility, compassion and a commitment to something bigger than oneself. By giving back, Yusuf is helping ensure that other boys may one day have the same opportunities to learn, grow and thrive at Kearsney.

Congratulations, Yusuf, on your outstanding academic achievements and the example you have set. You have given us another reason to be proud, and a wonderful reminder that true success is not only measured by what we achieve, but also by what we do for others.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the Kearsney Old Boys who have sadly passed away in recent months.

The loss of a loved one is never easy, and our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are grieving during this difficult time.

Each Old Boy is part of the Kearsney family, and the memories, friendships and connections forged at the College remain part of our shared heritage. We honour their lives and the part they played in our community, and trust that the support of family, friends and fellow Old Boys brings comfort in the days ahead.

May they rest in peace, and may their loved ones find strength and comfort in the memories they hold dear.

SAVED BEFORE HE WAS EVEN BORN: A Kearsney Old Boy making medical history

From a schoolboy fascinated by Emergency Medicine to a pioneering surgeon saving lives before birth, Michael Belfort (Pembroke, 1975) has dedicated his career to pushing the boundaries of what medicine can achieve.

As Deputy Head of School in his matric year and captain of the 1st Rugby XV, Michael made his mark at Kearsney. He was also a member of FORUM, a club that encouraged boys to explore subjects beyond the school syllabus. It was here that his early interest in medicine emerged, with Michael choosing to discuss Emergency Medicine.

That early curiosity has grown into an extraordinary career. Now based in the United States, Michael is a leading obstetrician and gynaecologist whose groundbreaking work includes operating on babies while they are still in the womb.

As featured in You magazine, Michael helped save the life of baby Theo, who was diagnosed before birth with a rare and life-threatening condition called gastroschisis, in which the intestines develop outside the baby's body. At just 26 weeks, Theo underwent pioneering surgery while still in his mother's womb, giving him a chance of a normal life.

Michael and his team have helped advance this specialised surgery internationally, offering hope to families facing some of the most challenging prenatal diagnoses. His work is also helping to build expertise in South Africa, where access to these procedures could make a life-changing difference.

Michael's story is a remarkable reminder of how curiosity, a passion for learning and a commitment to making a difference can lead to extraordinary achievements.

We are immensely proud to celebrate Michael's contribution to medicine and the lives he continues to change around the world.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Bryanston Country Club for our KCOB Gauteng Branch get-together. It was wonderful to see so many Old Boys from different year groups coming together to reconnect, share memories and strengthen the Kearsney bond.

A special thank you to everyone for the warm welcome and enthusiasm. This is just the beginning, and we look forward to building an even stronger Gauteng network with more opportunities to get together.

Founders Black-Tie Dinner; a stylish evening of fun, friendship, and nostalgia as the Kearsney College Old Boys gather to honour their alma mater and the bonds that unite the Kearsney community.

Tonight, the Old Boys will celebrate the 30th occasion of the Black-Tie Dinner.
