Hello! I'm from Elizabethtown, KY and I'm new to the group and new to sewing purses. I've set a goal of making 10 purses this year. I just completed my 4th one today. All the the fabrics were from purse kits that I bought from Whatnot. I added applique to either the outside or inside of the flaps of the newer/simpler purse pattern. I love seeing all the beautiful and creative purses that everyone is making.

Ever wondered what your donation makes possible?

Funds raised through our annual Sew-A-Thon campaigns go directly to the Sew Powerful Purse Program—helping girls stay in school while creating meaningful, good-paying jobs for women in Zambia.

✨ Your Sew-A-Thon donation supports:
• Providing girls with reusable menstrual pads and essential hygiene supplies
• Helping girls stay in school during their periods
• Creating employment for adult women who make the pads and soap

Your donation is earmarked exclusively for the Purse Program. While Sew Powerful has separate campaigns that support other areas of our ministry, Sew-A-Thon donations go directly toward this life-changing program.

No doubt purse makers at Lake Tahoe are having a wonderful time, but I also felt surrounded by retreat buddies here in my studio in Iowa this weekend. I was thrilled to bring home the lovely hand-painted flap made by Colorado Sisters Velma from last year's exchange and added a denim pocket to the back that was donated by Pat Tanner-Quigley (thank you!). And the giraffe I had admired in Camille Rice Glidden's stash somehow found its way to my table (thanks, Camille!). It only took all year for these treasures to come to the top of my purse priority pile, waiting for the right companion fabrics to reveal themselves. Now these special purses can start their journey to Zambia!
