Have you ever wished for evening TNR drop offs?

Well, good news!

Starting tomorrow, June 1st, we're giving it a try! We'll be open on Mondays from 4pm-7pm for TNR drop off. Cats will have surgery the next day (Tuesday), and pick up will be Wednesday a.m.

All of our normal TNR policies and guidelines apply, this is just an alternative to early a.m. drop off!

Please visit our website to familiarize yourself with our guidelines and policiesβ€”because we are high volume,(that means we handle A LOT of cats) we unfortunately cannot be flexible about accepting carriers, pick up times, or funding guidelines, but we are happy to answer questions and offer support!

Link to our TNR webpage is in the comments!

She trapped 58 cats at a mobile home park last spring. This year, they called back - to learn how to do it themselves!

Stacy sits down with Tanya Cook of Ohio Alleycat Resource in Cincinnati to talk about what it really looks like to build a community cat program from scratch and how one person can spark a movement.

🐾 400+ cats TNR'd in the pilot year
🐾 From neonatal foster to full-time advocate
🐾 The Neighborhood Cat Ambassador Program
🐾 Zip code targeting using shelter & rescue data
🐾 Community cat census via QR code flyers
🐾 Teaching communities to sustain the work themselves

This is the long game. And it's working. πŸ™Œ

Statistically speaking, β€œfree kittens” often continue the heartbreaking cycle of cat overpopulation. Not every kitten ends up adding to the problem, but a high majority do. 😭

If you’re considering taking in free kittens, ask about the mama cat too. Is she being spayed? Is there a plan to prevent more litters? βœ‚οΈ People who take kittens without addressing the mother’s situation may unintentionally enable the cycle to continue. Ending suffering starts with prevention. βœ…

And if you’re someone who suddenly finds yourself caring for kittens, your first priority should be getting mom fixed. πŸˆβ€β¬› I know money can be tight and resources can feel impossible to find, but even small sacrifices now can prevent countless future kittens from being born into hardship, danger, or uncertainty. Don’t wait. Make a plan. Skip that morning coffee β˜•οΈ and start saving now.

Reach out to shelters, rescues, or TNR programs for guidance on safely rehoming kittens and getting mom spayed. Many organizations are overwhelmed, especially during kitten season, so they may not be able to solve everything for you, but advice, support, and information can go a long way if you are willing to be proactive. 😻🐾

A kitten died today.

A kitten died today, while the woman who was trying to save her cried.

A kitten died today. She was skin and bones under her long, fluffy fur. Her mother was malnourished, and had little milk to give.

A kitten died today. Yesterday, she was still able to play, despite her frailty.

A kitten died today, and the woman who tried to save her feels that pain that only someone who has tried and failed to save another living being can feel.

A kitten died today, but her death started before she was born.

Her death started when someone adopted a β€œfree” kitten and didn't spay her/neuter him because β€œit cost too much”.

Her death started when someone wanted their cat to have β€œjust one litter” to feel the β€œjoy of motherhood”.

Her death started when someone moved but left the cat behind.

Her death started when a client was quoted $800 for a routine spay, and no information on low-cost alternatives was provided.

Her death started when someone decided that the neighborhood cats they feed were someone else's problem to fix.

Her death started when someone didn't have a way to get the kitty they found to a veterinarian.

Her death started when someone let their cat have litter after litter, year after year, because they like kittens.

Her death started when someone refused TNR services because they don't like the β€œlook” of an eartip.

Her death started when an elderly couple were too embarrassed to ask their children help when a new stray showed up.

Her death started when a landlord turned down permission to TNR a colony.

A kitten died today because she was born into a world that could not give her the support to keep her alive.

A kitten died today. Many kittens died today. And yesterday. And tomorrow. The pain is incredible.

If more people understood the pain, would more people help us prevent it?

Consider:

Low-cost spays and neuters in the Dayton area are under $100. Some organizations will assist low income families.

TNR spays and neuters are practically free ($10) currently at SICSA Pet Adoption Center and the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. Several municipalities partner with them to bring their residents' costs to $0.

TNR organizations and individuals will assist people who wish to learn TNR.

Rescue comes in many forms, and every role matters. But this piece is for the rescuers who often feel unseen while doing some of the hardest and most emotionally draining work behind the scenes.

The ones who carry food in the rain β˜” checking traps in the dark πŸŒ‘ making sure no animal is forgotten. And ask for nothing in return.

This tribute is simply to honor them and let them know they are seen too.
