Stan Update ❤️

Just look at the difference in two short weeks.

When Stan came to us, his little face was covered in painful wounds, scabs, and swelling. We still don’t know exactly what happened to him, but based on the pattern and severity of his injuries, we suspect he may have had hot liquid spilled or thrown on him. While we can’t know for certain, it’s heartbreaking to think about what this sweet boy may have endured.

Despite everything, Stan has been incredibly resilient. With lots of love, good food, medication, and a safe place to heal, he is making amazing progress. His eyes are brighter, his wounds are healing, and his personality is starting to shine through. He absolutely loves other cats and is incredibly playful!

We are so grateful to everyone who has donated, shared his story, and cheered him on. Every kind word and contribution has helped give Stan the chance he deserves.

Please keep Stan in your thoughts as he continues his recovery journey. We can’t wait to see what he looks like in another two weeks! ❤️🐾

The science on Trap-Neuter-Return programs for community cats has been building for decades. And a new research summary published in April 2026 by Texas A&M researchers brings that evidence together in one clear statement.

According to Dr. Amanda Blake, an associate research scientist in the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, TNR is the only humane, evidence-based, effective method to control unowned cat populations that live outdoors. The research confirms that TNR works by stopping the breeding cycle, which in turn addresses the community concerns most commonly raised about outdoor cat colonies, including disease spread, fighting, spraying, and yowling.

TNR programs work like this: community cats are humanely trapped, brought to a veterinary clinic to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and eartipped (the universal visible sign that a cat has been through the program), and then returned to their outdoor homes.

The research also highlights something called the vacuum effect. When cats are simply removed from an area without being spayed or neutered, new unsterilized cats quickly move in to fill the space. TNR prevents this by stabilizing colony populations over time.

Beyond population management, TNR reduces shelter intake, lowers euthanasia rates, decreases calls to animal control, and saves taxpayer money. Cats who are no longer focused on mating and reproducing also tend to coexist more peacefully with the people living near them.

For those who care about community cats, this research is worth sharing. The debate over whether TNR works is, scientifically speaking, largely settled.

We always remind every one about water!

A simple bowl of clean water can make the difference between life and death for cats trying to survive outdoors. Dehydration can quickly lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, kidney issues, etc. Providing fresh cool clean water is one of the kindest things you can do for them. It never ceases to amaze me how many people feed cats, but do not provide water. It is a simple, free, and fundamental necessity for their survival. Please be a hero and put out some fresh clean water!! 💦💦💦

Edited to add: Never use metal dishes in the sun or extreme heat or cold. This dish is in a spot that is 100% shaded all day long and is refreshed with cold water multiple times per day.

💔 We Couldn’t Walk Away From This One 💔

This little boy, who we have named Stan, came from a home with 18 cats living indoors. When we picked him up to be neutered yesterday, it was immediately obvious that he was far too sick for surgery.

He’s painfully thin, his eyes and nose are severely congested, and he was so weak that he wasn’t able to compete for food with the other cats. By the time we met him, he was struggling just to be a kitten.

But here’s the amazing part…

Despite everything he’s been through, he’s purring. ❤️

He’s eating. He’s accepting love. And he’s fighting.

We already have more cats in our care than we can comfortably handle.We have no fosters. We have bills waiting to be paid. taking on another medical case wasn’t in the plan. But sometimes you look at a face like this and realize that doing nothing simply isn’t an option.

He’s now safe, warm, receiving medication, and finally getting the care he desperately needed.

Please send him some positive thoughts as he starts his journey toward recovery. We don’t know what the next few weeks will bring, but we do know that he won’t have to face it alone.

This is why TNR, spay/neuter, and responsible pet ownership matter. No kitten should have to struggle this hard just to survive.
