Original New Works Staged Reading

Join us for an afternoon of storytelling and perspectives as we showcase eight original scripts by six regional playwrights. This afternoon brings together a mix of established and emerging voices, offering a range of styles and themes presented as staged readings.

Audiences will have the opportunity to experience new works in development, connect with local artists, and engage in the creative process. Whether you’re a longtime theater lover or simply curious about new writing, this event invites you into the heart of the region’s vibrant creative community.

Show up, enjoy some snacks, enjoy original new scripts, and provide much-desired feedback for new and emerging scripts!

Admission is free or sliding scale with online pre-registration, or $8 at the door. Light snacks will be provided. Come discover and support local talent and regional artists!

While we postponed our show today, we hope you will join us Thursday, March 19th-Sunday March 22nd to enjoy the shows we have put together!

The showcase is a culmination of our Original One Act playwriting competition. This competition brings in original work from all over the tri-state area. This year we received 84 submissions to the competition. While there were many excellent submissions, we have chosen these six to create a cohesive show that examines the current American experience. All the plays that were chosen this year confront the America in which we currently find ourselves. Whether it be the stark reality of reproductive rights in The Helpers, the corruption of human relationships due to materialism and the loneliness caused by capitalism in Treasures, or the violence that children are facing across the country in The NRA Field Guide To The American Family (or a Vision for a More Perfecter Future); these plays speak to the tumultuous and disconcerting times in which Americans now live. We believe that theater should be a way for us to challenge ourselves; a way for us to live outside our personal experiences and empathize with the experiences of others. We hope that the shows you are seeing expand your understanding of the world, create empathy with those different from yourself, and inspire conversation beyond the walls of this theater. Schedule Update Due to Weather

Due to the incoming weather, the Sunday, March 15th performance at 2 PM has been postponed. The safety of our performers and patrons is of the utmost importance to us, and we want everyone to travel safely.

That performance will now take place on Saturday, March 21st at 2 PM.

If you were planning to attend Sunday the 15ths matinee, we’d love to see you at one of our other performances!

Theatre du Mississippi is excited to announce its time for the Original One Acts again! This year’s compilation of plays offers audiences a dynamic theatrical experience that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. Through humor, satire, and emotional depth, the plays create space for laughter alongside difficult conversations about disability, grief, bodily autonomy, gun culture, faith, aging, and second chances. Each story invites viewers to see the world through perspectives they may not share, fostering empathy and reflection without sacrificing wit or theatrical imagination. Because the pieces range in tone (from intimate and personal to satirical) they keep audiences engaged while encouraging them to examine their own assumptions about identity, connection, and responsibility. This showcase offers compelling storytelling and the opportunity to join in meaningful dialogue after the show!
