Update 10-27
All of her tests look good. We have started her on meds to see how she does. She still has fluid around her shoulders and rear. The swelling in her back leg has gone down. The bruises on her back legs are looking better. But still no answers. We are thinking some kind of trauma. Just keeping an eye on her. Will follow up at the vet in two weeks.

Update: we now have 325 dollars towards Diamonds vet visit. We will update tomorrow after the vet appointment. Thank you to everyone who donated. We appreciate you more than you know.

This is Diamond, she came to the Shelter in June 2026. She’s only 2 years old. She is so young.

She was a little nervous but warmed up pretty quickly. She was a happy girl that loves people. She was so happy to get out of her kennel to go outside.

About three weeks ago, her back leg starting swelling up and she was pooping blood. It got worse over the next couple of weeks.

The Shelter has a vet, they put her on antibiotics and Rimadyl. They took some X-rays of her but they said they have never seen this before.

So we brought her home last week to get her out of the shelter. Once we got her home, I noticed she was acting different. When you would reach down to touch her, she would cower like a dog that’s been beat.

Her back left leg is swollen twice its size, it’s red and very raw. She also has a mass close to her rear end. Shes limping on her back right leg. All she wants to do is lay around. When you reach down to touch her now, she whines. It’s heartbreaking.

She will be going to get a second opinion on Friday and hopefully figure out what’s going on with her. It’s hard to get pictures as she really doesn’t like having her picture made.

We need to raise some funds to get her in to see the vet on Friday. So if you would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated. If you can’t donate please share and keep Diamond in your prayers.

One of our Barrow Buddies, Alley passed away today. We are beyond heartbroken.

She was the sweetest girl and had so much love to give. She never met a stranger. She loved car rides and treat time was her favorite.

Today we took her on an adventure on the Pooch Pontoon, where she got to ride on the boat, walk in the water, smell all the new smells. She had 3 pup cups. She definitely had a blast.

Shortly after getting back to the shore. She started declining fast. She was taken to the ER where she crossed the rainbow bridge.

Jerry is nearing the end of his journey, so we took him out on the Pooch Pontoon for a little adventure. He got to ride on the boat, explore an island, sniff around and just enjoy being a dog. 🐾

Tonight was all about Jerry. ❤️

💔 Three of our Barrow Buddies are not doing well, and our hearts are hurting. 💔

As many of you know, Jerry and Alley are both nearing the end of their journeys. Tonight, Jerry gets to go on a special little adventure, something we are incredibly grateful we can give him. Tomorrow, it will be Alley’s turn. 🐾❤️

Jerry has always loved his food, but now he doesn’t want much of anything except his treats. We’ve been cooking pork chops, hamburgers, chicken—whatever we can think of that might tempt him to eat. At this point, we just want to spoil him and make every moment count. ❤️

And then there’s sweet Alley. I don’t think she ever really knew what treats were. There are probably so many little things she never got to experience in her life. So now, we are trying our best to make up for lost time. She deserves to know what it feels like to be loved, spoiled, and cherished. 🥺❤️

And our sweet Freckles is struggling too. When she walks, she circles and eventually falls over. What makes this even harder is that Freckles has a bonded buddy named Lucy, who is blind. Lucy depends on Freckles to help her find her way around. They have each other, and we want to make sure they are as comfortable and loved as possible. 🐾💔

We have created an Amazon Wish List with treats they enjoy and a few things that will help keep them comfortable during this difficult time.

Alley our newest Barrow Buddy!

As you all know we love the seniors, especially the hospice ones.

She has had bloodwork and x-rays. We got the results back yesterday which was not what we wanted to hear. She’s in heart failure, and she is stage four heart worms.

Her story
Alley came into the Shelter as a stray. She was over there about three weeks until we brought her home. The shelter has her age at 9 but she is probably more like 12 years old.

She is the sweetest girl and has the cutest underbite. She follows Brain around the house and she wants to play, but we try to keep her calm. I don’t think she had the greatest past. She loves treats and affection which we don’t think she had much of that in the past. But I do know she will be spoiled and loved for however, long she has left.

Update on Jerry!

As you know on Sunday evening, we ended up at the ER.

On Sunday around lunchtime, we noticed he had some swelling on the left side of his face around his jaw under his ear. It got a little bigger so we decided to take him to the ER. When we got to the ER they thought the swelling might have something to do with his teeth. They gave him fluids and a Rimadyl shot. They sent him home with entice and specialty food.

This morning we called the vet to let them know we had taken Jerry to the ER last night. They said to bring him in, once he was there they had to sedate him to do a x-ray. The x-ray didn’t really show anything with his teeth, but while he was under, they checked his ears. He had a really bad ear infection in his left ear. They cleaned his ears the best they could sent him home on antibiotics and Rimadyl. He will go back for a recheck in two weeks. He has slept most of the afternoon.

Jerry lived outside all his life. When I brought him home in December of last year. I took him to the vet and he had a really bad ear infection in both ears. He really needs TECA surgery but he is not a candidate for it. So we decided to keep him as comfortable as we could for as long as we can.

We will keep doing everything we can to help Jerry and keep him pain free. I did lay with him for a good while this evening. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Sweet Boo is still looking for his forever home. He has been at Barrow County Animal Control for over two years. He was at the shelter for over a year. Went through heartworm treatment and has been in foster care since. As his foster mom, I can tell you that he is amazing. He is loving and loyal. He loves walks and car rides. One of his favorite things is baths, which is good because he loves to roll in dirt!! 😂😂
He is good with other dogs but unfortunately no cats.

Please remember we have other Barrow Buddies that need your help. Please sponsor on of our seniors. The shelter provides their food. But we like for them to have a little more. Such as treats, supplements, toys, and soft beds. Not to mention the disinfectant for cleaning.

Earl is enjoying his new bed. Earl is 15 years old he came into the shelter with his best friend Jed who crossed the rainbow bridge two years ago. Earl is a sweet loving boy who enjoys lounging around. He loves going outside and exploring the yard.

Our seniors don’t ask for much, but we like for them to be comfortable and they are always happy and loved.
