SummerCollab We work with schools and community partners to deliver year-round learning experiences that support kids’ growth—academically, socially, and emotionally.

This page highlights our impact, celebrates student success, and connects our community to our cause. Summer is a window into the life we want for ourselves, and it is for that reason that we, The Summer Learning Collaborative (SummerCollab), sincerely believe all kids, in particular our low-income youth, need access to extraordinary experiences in the summertime and throughout the school year. Tackling summer learning loss, SummerCollab is dedicated to offering a summer of limitless possibilities for our low-income youth. We co-create both summer and year-long youth programs with community agencies and schools that energize kids to love learning, play wildly, and believe in the power of their unique talents. With our extraordinary summer and year-long programs, SummerCollab better equips children to engage with academic content and their everyday lives with boosts of confidence and socio-emotional growth. SummerCollab seeks to realize a world filled with imaginative, confident young people who believe in their unique talents, intelligence and unlimited possibility! Helping to bring the wonder of summer into everyday!

📦 Think outside the box… literally! 🎨💡

This week, our CollabClub inventors took an ordinary cardboard box and turned it into something completely new! Working in pairs with just scissors, tape, and crayons, students brainstormed, built, tested, and brought their ideas to life.

The best part? There was no right or wrong answer. Just creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and a whole lot of imagination. 🙌

It’s starting to feel like fall in the Collab Kitchen! 🍂🎃

Cooler weather, cozy flavors, and something delicious has been cooking at the CollabClubs this week!

Our young chefs made Pumpkin French Toast, and it was definitely a hit. They measured, mixed, dipped, cooked, and worked together to turn a few simple ingredients into a pretty delicious fall breakfast. 🍞🥚

Want to bring a little Collab Kitchen into your own kitchen? Try it at home!

🎃 Pumpkin French Toast Sticks

You’ll need:
• 6 slices thick bread
• 3 eggs
• ½ cup milk
• ¾ cup pumpkin puree
• 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
• Cooking spray
• Powdered sugar + syrup

Make it:
Whisk together the eggs, milk, pumpkin, and pumpkin pie spice. Cut the bread into strips and dip each piece into the pumpkin mixture. Cook in a lightly sprayed skillet over medium heat for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, add some warm syrup, and dig in!

🍁 Fall tastes pretty good from our kitchen!

October is all about Imagine, Invent & Create!
Each week gives students a new way to use their creativity—from becoming Makers & Inventors, to exploring Engineering, creating through Storytelling, and finishing the month with some Halloween Fun. We're encouraging students to think outside the box, try new ideas, solve problems, and express themselves while having plenty of opportunities to make, create, and explore.

Our students got hands-on with shaving cream, Borax, and food coloring while experimenting with texture, color, and chemistry.

We’re not sure what was messier: the experiment or the cleanup. 😂

Middle School Cooking Club!
Our students recently spent some time in the kitchen making quesitos, a sweet cream cheese-filled pastry from Puerto Rico.

Working in small groups, they each had a job—from mixing the filling and cutting the pastry to folding, brushing, and getting their quesitos ready for the air fryer. They practiced following a recipe, measuring ingredients, kitchen safety, and working together.

They also learned a little about Puerto Rico and its flag before trying what they made! 😋

Here are a few photos from our day in the CollabClub kitchen 👇

💧🔧 What happens when you give kids cups, straws, tape, and a little water? You get a Pipeline Challenge! 💦

Our CollabClub kids worked together to build a pipeline that would move water from one cup to another. They tested their designs, found the leaks, made a few changes, and tried again. Some worked better than others… and some definitely needed a little more tape! 😂

It was fun to watch the kids figure things out as they went and see how quickly a simple idea could turn into a whole engineering challenge.

🔵 Making Our Mark on Dot Day! 🎨

Our CollabClub kids recently celebrated Dot Day, inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot — a story about creativity, self-expression, and discovering that even one small mark can become something amazing.

After reading the story, students talked about Vashti’s journey from thinking she “couldn’t draw” to discovering what she could create when she simply gave it a try. Then it was their turn! Using paint, Q-tips, sponge brushes, and other materials, our students created their own dot art, experimenting with colors, patterns, shapes, and different techniques.

The best part? There was no “right” way to make their art. Each student had the freedom to make something that was uniquely theirs while thinking about how their choices could express their own ideas and creativity.

We loved seeing where a simple dot could take them! 💙
