We were proud to be at the Veteran Benefits Live event last week to provide resources to Veterans who may benefit from a life-changing service dog. Every chance to spread the word can make a difference.

Thank you to our amazing Community Engagement Volunteers (and service dog in training Aspen) for attending.

As we approach the end of our fiscal year on June 30, every gift makes a difference in helping us continue providing highly trained service dogs to Veterans. To help us reach our goal, we’re excited to announce a special June fundraising giveaway!

Anyone who makes a donation of $50 or more during the month of June will automatically be entered to win a Canines for Service swag bag filled with CFS merchandise and goodies. Your support directly impacts the lives of the Veterans we serve and gives you a chance to show off your CFS pride, too! Thank you for helping us finish the year strong and continue changing lives, one service dog at a time. 🐾

🐾 Could your dog brighten someone’s day?

If your pup loves meeting new people, sharing affection, and bringing comfort wherever they go, they may be the perfect fit for our Canines for Therapy program!

Through this special certification program, pets and their people visit places like hospitals, schools, libraries, and long-term care facilities to spread smiles, comfort, and connection throughout our community. 🐶✨

📍 Our next 6-week Canines for Therapy certification course begins June 20th at our Wilmington facility.

Your dog may be eligible if they:
✔️ Are at least 1 year old
✔️ Have been in your care for at least 6 months
✔️ Are up to date on vaccinations
✔️ Can pass a Canine Good Citizen test before the course begins

This program is a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful impact, support the mission of Canines for Service, and share the healing power of dogs with those who need it most.

🐾UPDATE: ADOPTED🐾

Hi! My name is Aliya, and I’m a female yellow Labrador Retriever with a sweet personality and a strong training foundation. I was born on July 9, 2024, and have spent a large part of my young life in the service dog training program. During that time, I’ve logged around 1,000 hours of training and learned many important skills, routines, and expectations.

Even though I worked hard, service work is not the right long-term fit for me. I was released from the program due to a combination of health and behavior concerns. I have shown ongoing concerns related to the development and comfort of my feet, and the team feels that my long-term wellbeing needs to come first. I have also shown food-related guarding behavior, so I will need a home that understands management around meals, treats, and high-value items.

What this really means is that I need a family who will advocate for me, continue helping me feel comfortable, and provide clear structure in a safe and patient way. I would do best in a home that understands that I am still young and still learning but also respects that I may have some long-term comfort needs that should be monitored with a veterinarian.

Because of my food guarding, if there are other dogs in the home, careful introductions and thoughtful management around food, toys, and treats will be important. I have been introduced to cats before, but I like to chase them.

Health-wise, I am heartworm negative, microchipped, spayed, received my OFA certifications, and am up to date on vaccinations, veterinary exams, and monthly preventatives. My future family should be prepared to continue monitoring my feet and overall comfort with their veterinarian.

A Change of Career Adoption Application is required to schedule a meet-and-greet with me. This process helps ensure I’m matched with a home that’s the best fit for my needs and personality, setting both of us up for long-term success. My adoption fee is $3,000.
