Attention Veterans of Wilmington and surrounding areas!

There is a Badges of Honor event on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Cape Fear Community College’s Surf City Campus.

There will be assistance available to NC-07 veterans and their loved ones to complete the necessary paperwork and guide them through the process of obtaining military awards and medals they earned but may never have received.

Participants are encouraged to bring their DD-214, and family members are welcome to attend. Those with questions about required documentation may contact Grant Seitrich of David Rouser's office at [email protected].

Introducing Hampstead Women's Club as Puppy Patron Sponsors! ✨🐾

Founded in 2001, the Hampstead Women's Club is run by a team of local volunteers who donate countless hours to support the community. Proceeds from its thrift shop and event space are reinvested into scholarships, sponsorships, and donations to schools, food banks, senior centers, and other local causes.

Behind every future service dog is a dedicated volunteer puppy raiser who helps make their journey possible. These incredible volunteers have poured countless hours of time, energy, patience, and, of course, love into preparing these pups for their next chapter.

Nick Sword, Vet2Vet Program Manager and Marine Corps Veteran, was honored to speak with Major James Capers Jr. last week. Major Capers earned three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, and most recently, a Medal of Honor, among many more commendations and achievements from his extraordinary service in the US Marine Corps.

Major Capers shared stories with Nick about his War Dog in Vietnam and the instances in which the dog saved not only his life, but the lives of his men on multiple occasions. Service dog in training, Tuck, was able to share a special moment with the Major, too.

Today is World Mental Health Day 💚

Kara Tolman, LCSW, and owner of Making Waves Counseling & Wellness says, "Everybody is struggling with something, but a lot of people don't talk about it because they're worried about the shame associated with it. When we can reduce that stigma by talking about it and building community, we're able to reduce that shame pattern."

Kara reminds us that having an open dialogue around mental health and telling our stories in safe places with safe people can also reduce stigma.

Help us to continue to support one another by checking on your friends and loved ones, sharing resources, asking for help, and telling your stories.
