U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps - Torpedo Squadron 8 - Wilmington, NC The USNSCC unit serving New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, Brunswick, and Bladen county Cadets are welcome to join at this time.

The leadership of the Greater Wilmington Area Naval Sea Cadet Corps is welcoming new cadets to provide them with a unique opportunity to participate in one of the most unique and respected youth organizations in the United States. The US Naval Sea Cadet
Corps is a not for profit organization with over 7,000 Sea cadets participating in over 370 units across the country (ages 10-17). Chartered by a

n Act of Congress and operational since 1962, the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a unique organization for youth, providing exceptional educational experiences, sometimes on board naval ships and at various naval and Marine Corps facilities. A new Naval Sea Cadet unit is now operational in the greater Wilmington area to serve Wilmington, Jacksonville, Brunswick, New
Hanover, Pender, and Onslow Counties. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to participate as auxiliary members and may join the officer corps. The US Naval Sea Cadet Corps works with the Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps to encourage and aid American youth to develop
an interest and skill in basic seamanship and in its naval adaptations, to train them in seagoing skills, and to teach them patriotism, courage, self-reliance and kindred virtues in a drug-, gang- and alcohol-free lifestyle. A Naval Sea Cadet does not have to plan to join the military to participate but if they advance in the program, they are eligible for advanced pay grades when they join the military - just like JROTC. Nearly 12 percent of incoming Naval Academy Midshipmen were former Naval Sea Cadets. The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a nationally recognized 501 (c)(3) organization and you may learn more about the Naval Sea Cadet program at the national website, www.seacadets.org.

Today, we pause to honor a true American hero.

As Major James Capers Jr. is recognized with the Medal of Honor, we are reminded that courage is not measured by words, but by actions taken in the face of unimaginable danger. His sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering devotion to his fellow Marines and to our nation represent the highest ideals of military service.

At USNSCC Torpedo Squadron 8, we teach our cadets about leadership, honor, courage, and commitment. Yet the greatest lessons often come from the examples set by heroes like Major Capers—individuals who chose duty over self and inspired generations through their character and actions.

To Major Capers, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and the legacy you leave for every young person striving to lead with integrity and compassion. May your story continue to remind us that one person’s courage can change countless lives.

Please join us in celebrating this historic and deeply deserved honor for a man who has already given so much to our country.

🇺🇸 Fair winds and following seas, Major Capers. Your example will continue to guide those who follow in your footsteps.

There are moments that remind us exactly why we do what we do, and yesterday was one of them. We could not be prouder of Chief Petty Officer Ricciardi for his outstanding representation of USNSCC Torpedo Squadron 8 at the Flag Day ceremony.

Standing at the podium in his dress whites, Chief Ricciardi delivered a beautiful, deeply moving speech. He spoke from the heart about the enduring symbol of our flag, the 250-year legacy of our great nation, and the heavy responsibility our generation carries to preserve freedom through active citizenship and community service. He also paid a wonderful tribute to the brave WWII aviators of the original Torpedo Squadron 8, reminding us all of the giant shoulders we stand on.

Chief Ricciardi truly embodies the spirit of a servant leader, and his dedication hasn't gone unnoticed.

🏛️ Next Stop: Capitol Hill!

His exceptional leadership is taking him all the way to Washington, D.C.! We are thrilled to share that Chief Ricciardi has been selected to participate in the upcoming Capitol Hill Day, where he will be representing the entire U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps.

He will have the incredible opportunity to meet with lawmakers, share the impact that the Sea Cadet program has on youth across the nation, and advocate for the future of our organization. We know he is going to represent Torpedo Squadron 8 and cadets nationwide with the exact same dignity, passion, and excellence he showed today.

Please join us in congratulating Chief Ricciardi on a phenomenal speech, and wishing him the absolute best as he prepares to take his leadership to Capitol Hill! Bravo Zulu, Chief! 👏👏

Yesterday, our cadets from the USNSCC Torpedo Squadron 8 had the distinct honor of participating in the local Flag Day Ceremony, where they took center stage to perform the deeply meaningful 13 Folds of the American Flag Ceremony.

With absolute precision, reverence, and sharp military bearing, our cadets executed each fold flawlessly. As they worked together to form the perfect tri-corner, they reminded everyone in attendance of the profound meaning behind every single fold, from the first fold symbolizing life, to the final folds honoring our nation, our veterans, and the families who support them.

Standing before local community members and distinguished guests, including U.S. Army Veteran Eric Mens, whose incredible journey from refugee to soldier was highlighted at the event, our Sea Cadets demonstrated the exact leadership, respect, and patriotism that Torpedo Squadron 8 stands for.

Watching these young men and women handle Old Glory with such utmost respect was a moment of immense pride for our entire squadron. They proved once again that they are not just learning about service; they are living it.
Bravo Zulu to the cadets who represented us so beautifully! ⚓️🇺🇸

It's never too early to support and share the mission.

When you sponsor a Patriot Pair, one wreath will be placed on a veteran’s headstone at a participation WAA location this December, and a second wreath will be sent to the address of your choice to be displayed as you choose.

It is a great option if you’re looking to participate on National Wreaths Across America Day and remember the service of a veteran in your family, honor the sacrifice of a military family you know, or teach others about the Wreaths Across America mission at a business or at home.
