We’re excited to share that we are part of the founding cohort of the NC Public Schools Public Education Champions Network! 🎉

We all hear a lot of discouraging stats or difficult stories about our schools, from funding challenges to negative headlines and more.

While awareness and advocacy matter (and we care deeply about both), it’s equally important that those realities don’t overshadow the incredible things happening in our schools every single day.

New Hanover County Schools and schools across NC are filled with dedicated educators, caring staff, resilient students, innovative programs, and meaningful moments that deserve to be celebrated. ❤️

Congratulations to NHCS District Spelling Bee winner Cooper Collins (Murray Middle) who went on to place 10th at the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee at Bank of America Stadium!! Awesome job!! 👏👏👏👏

The first official New Hanover County Schools District Spelling Bee was a huge success! 🎉

Thank you to the 12 schools that participated, the officials panel and volunteers, and to all who support this scholastic competition. We loved seeing the individual school bees too. (linked in comments) 🐝

The spellers were incredible - such sportsmanship - good lucks, fist bumps, cheers, and encouragement to others even after elimination. Truly amazing! 👏

Special shoutout to Ethan Squires (Trask Middle School, 8th) for the above, as well as his poise, humor, and outstanding sportsmanship that was noticeably impactful to others. The Wilmington Sharks have added a sportsmanship prize for him - 4 game tickets, on-field recognition, and a field experience of choice - awesome job Ethan! 👏

Do you have a spelling bee memory? Favorite word? We’d love to hear it!

It’s bee season in Wilmington, and we’re so excited to have gone from 1 school last year to 12 schools this year in partnership with New Hanover County Schools.

Schools this year are: Anderson, Bellamy, Blair, Castle Hayne, Codington, Eaton, Murray, Roland-Grise, Porters Neck, Trask, Wrightsboro, and Winter Park.

The top 3 from each school will be spelling in the first official NHCS district bee next week! (weather permitting)

The winner will advance to the Carolina Panthers regional bee at Bank of America Stadium for a chance to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC. (22,000+ schools enrolled!)

We have an awesome panel of officials and amazing prizes for all participants and our top 3 spellers. Thankful to have been a part of this incredible night with Charlotte FC!🙏🤯 Look forward to seeing more experiences like this for our Wilmington soccer community!⚽️

⚽💙 We are so proud of our students!

This past Saturday, around 25 of our kids had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take post-game penalty kicks on the field at Bank of America Stadium after the Charlotte FC vs. Miami match.

It was already a history-making night — Lionel Messi, one of the greatest players of all time, played his first-ever game in Charlotte before a sold-out crowd, and Charlotte FC set a new MLS record with 9 consecutive wins!

We are so proud of our students for representing our school and the Wilmington soccer community in such an incredible way! 💙⚽
