CPR & First Aid Training Program Narrative

The Williamsport Bureau of Fire is proud to offer professional CPR, First Aid, and Basic Life Support (BLS) training programs designed to provide community members, businesses, organizations, and public safety personnel with the lifesaving skills needed to respond confidently during emergencies.

Every year, sudden cardiac arrest, choking incidents, traumatic injuries, and medical emergencies occur without warning. Immediate intervention by a trained bystander can significantly increase survival rates and improve patient outcomes before emergency responders arrive. Through our comprehensive training programs, participants learn essential skills including adult, child, and infant CPR, AED utilization, airway management, bleeding control, injury assessment, and basic first aid techniques.

Our courses are taught by experienced instructors from the Williamsport Bureau of Fire who bring real-world emergency response experience into the classroom. Training is offered in a professional, hands-on environment utilizing modern equipment and practical scenarios that prepare students to respond effectively when seconds matter most.

The Williamsport Bureau of Fire is committed to serving our community through education, prevention, and preparedness. Our mission is to provide rapid response and quality emergency services with dedicated and highly trained Firefighter/EMTs to reduce risk and improve the safety and quality of life for those who live, work, and visit the Greater Williamsport Area. By offering CPR and First Aid training, we extend that mission beyond emergency response and empower citizens to become active participants in community safety.

Classes are available for individuals, businesses, schools, healthcare providers, civic organizations, sports teams, childcare providers, and community groups. A minimum of four participants is required to schedule a course, and customized training options are available to meet organizational needs.

Whether you are seeking certification for employment, renewing existing credentials, or simply wanting to gain the confidence to help a family member, friend, coworker, or stranger in need, CPR and First Aid training can make a critical difference.

🚲⚠️ E-BIKES & SCOOTER BATTERIES: KNOW THE RISKS. STAY SAFE. ⚠️🛴

E-bikes and electric scooters are becoming more popular every day. They provide convenient, affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation. However, the lithium-ion batteries that power these devices can pose a serious fire hazard if they are damaged, improperly charged, or poorly maintained.

The Williamsport Bureau of Fire wants residents to understand that battery fires can develop rapidly, produce intense heat, and release toxic smoke. Taking a few simple precautions can help protect your family, your home, and your community.

✅ Use only the manufacturer's approved charger.
✅ Charge batteries on a hard, non-combustible surface.
✅ Never charge batteries on beds, couches, or near flammable materials.
✅ Do not leave batteries charging unattended or overnight.
✅ Inspect batteries regularly for swelling, damage, unusual odors, or overheating.
✅ Store batteries in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
✅ Properly recycle damaged or unwanted batteries—never place them in the trash.

🚨 If a battery begins smoking, sparking, overheating, or catches fire:
• Evacuate the area immediately.
• Call 911.
• Do not attempt to move a damaged battery.
• Stay clear and allow firefighters to handle the situation.
