Lycoming College is thrilled to welcome back Tim Chiarolanza ’11 and Triumph in Recovery to the Shangraw Athletics Complex on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at 1 p.m. as the Warriors take on Juniata. While serving his alma mater as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Tim was struck by a car on Washington Blvd. in 2021. He suffered multiple life-threatening injuries and was given a one percent chance of survival. Triumph in Recovery was founded in 2024 by Tim, his wife Sarah, and their families to promote its efforts to “display compassionate care and unwavering support to individuals navigating the challenges of trauma recovery, stroke recovery, and traumatic brain injuries.” Through education, rehabilitation services, and community outreach, the organization aims to enhance the quality of life and promote long-term recovery for those facing these challenges. The organization envisions a society where every individual is embraced with empathy, empowered with opportunity, and supported on their journey toward healing and renewal.

A few years ago, Jamie (Hershey) Chambers ’06 purchased an engraved brick for the Commencement walkway on the Fultz Quad in honor of her Alpha Sigma Tau sisters. She never told them.

This past weekend, Jamie was able to surprise them in honor of their 20-year reunion! Pictured are Jamie and Lacey (Pietropaolo) Gulick ’06 with their brick on the steps at Homecoming 2026.

Opera is openly viewed as an expensive, stuffy, and boring art form, meant only for the cultural elite. Gary Boerckel, DMA, professor emeritus of music, seeks to dispel these myths by looking at 200 Years of Light Opera. From La Serva Padrona of Pergolesi to Romberg’s The Student Prince and a special emphasis on the works of Offenbach, Gilbert and Sullivan, and Johann Strauss II, Dr. Boerckel introduces students to popular, amusing, and entertaining examples of light operas with the hope that appreciation may deepen for this too-often overlooked genre. This is his second openLYCOMING offering, following his wildly successful History of Broadway class in 2019.

Dr. Kerry Richmond, Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Lycoming College, was recently conducting research on Laurelton Center, a former state institution for women, at the Pennsylvania State Archives. Her research archivist? Maggie (Slawson) Hoffer ’17. The pair spoke for hours on their work with the prisons and state institutions records and research within the archives field. 💙💛
