Lycoming College mourns the passing of Emily Christenberry Douthat, beloved spouse of President Emeritus Dr. James E. Douthat ’13H.
Emily leaves a legacy of service, generosity, and devotion to Lycoming College and the greater Williamsport community. During Dr. Douthat’s 24-year presidency, she served as one of the College’s most dedicated ambassadors, graciously welcoming alumni, students, faculty, trustees, and guests while supporting countless campus events and initiatives. Although she never held an official title, Emily was widely regarded as one of Lycoming’s most devoted and tireless volunteers. She traveled on behalf of the College, greeted alumni and distinguished visitors, helped organize campus programs and events, and was a steadfast presence at athletic contests, concerts, and theatre productions. In recognition of her commitment, Emily received the Dale V. Bower Service Award in 2005, honoring her outstanding service to the College.
Emily will be remembered for her kindness, grace, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the College and those whose lives she touched. Her impact on Lycoming will endure, and we remember her with profound gratitude. Please keep Jim, Mark, Anna, and the Douthat family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. A Celebration of Life will be held in Clarke Chapel on Saturday, September 19, at 1:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. All members of the Lycoming College community are invited to attend.
