Kiwanis Club of Williamsport welcomes our new member: Melia (Lia) Garrett.
At the August 13, 2026 Kiwanis Club meeting - Jack Houston (President) presented the "Certificate of Membership" to Lia Garrett. 😀😀😀
Lia was previously a member of Kiwanis Club of Scranton; and Kiwanis Club of Dalmatia in Dauphin County.
Lia is the new pastor and pastoral leader of United Methodist Churches at Balls Mills and Rose Valley.
Kiwanis Club of Williamsport offers welcome, congratulations, and best wishes to Lia Garrett for her success and future participation and service with the family and children of the Williamsport Community.
Kiwanis Club of Williamsport has a total of 49 members and moves forward to the "Kiwanis Year of 2026-2027" with a spirit of commitment, dedication, and openness for new ways of connections and friendships.

Kiwanis "Interclub Gathering" at First Church - Williamsport: members of "3" Kiwanis Clubs attended: Lock Haven, Bald Eagle and Nittany Valleys, and Williamsport. 😀😀😀
Our guest speaker - State Representative Jamie Flick - avid baseball Fan - Jamie serves as a "Team Uncle" and host for the Little League World Series and he was a youth baseball coach - he is a member of Williamsport SABR - Society for American Baseball Research.
The annual "Ray Keyes Banquet" honors Ray Keyes - the Williamsport Sports Editor - he covered Little League Baseball from its inception in 1939 and the Little League World Series from 1947 until his passing in 1988.
The banquet featured "Casey at the Bat" - read by Tammey Edkin. And, a Little League Practice Video - Wayne Fausnaught interview of "team uncles" - Ron Frick and Mike Lundy.
A delicious luncheon was enjoyed by everyone and "door prizes" donated by Little League International and the Williamsport Crosscutters were distributed.

Kiwanis Club of Williamsport Meeting on Thursday - August 13, 2026 - presentation by "National Giving Alliance" - - Newberry Chapter - Mission - provides new clothing and essential items so that children and youth have the resources to safely develop to their potential. "Kiwanis Club of Williamsport" attending Kiwanis Pennsylvania District Convention in Gettysburg, PA - 109th District Convention: August 13-16, 2026 at the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel and Conference Center.

Another Williamsport Branch YMCA Back to School Backpack night in the books! Manning our table were Chris and Peter Wallace, Jack Houston, Tegan Spirko, Conrad Schlesinger, and Alicia Naugle.

This year there were registrations for 150 backpacks. Our Club supplied notebooks, composition booklets, pocket folders (colorful and a favorite of parents), 50 boxes of crayons, regular and mechanical pencils and Twizzler packets.

Thank you to Brianna Rybka, PA Program Director – Civic Programs & Engagement at the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania, for our program today. Voters today are faced with political polarization, misinformation, and declining trust. The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Democracy depends on people being willing to participate, even when we disagree. Get out and VOTE.

Thank you to Mary Ballat, Outreach and Education Specialist, from AIDS Resource for our program today. Founded in 1988, AIDS Resource emerged with a focused mission—to provide comfort and dignity to individuals in Lycoming County dying from AIDS-related causes. Services have since flourished. Initially rooted in medical case management and client support services. Services have expanded to eleven counties. Their goal remains steadfast: to continue evolving and addressing the ever-evolving needs of their clients and patients.

Thank you today to Chad Greevy, assistant principal, and Alisia McNamee, principal, at St. John Neumann Regional Academy- Jr/Sr High School Campus for our program today. The school motto is Faith, Service, and Academics. The program today focused on the school’s transition to a four day school week for grades 6-12 starting in the Fall. They call it 4>5. Fridays offer optional opportunities for tutoring, service, etc.

They explained the decision followed several years of discussion, strategic planning, and a growth plan aimed at identifying opportunities for Catholic schools in the diocese . SJNRA is the first in our region to adopt this model, and it is based on a similar system used at Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown. Goals of innovative learning, hiring highly qualified teachers, increase enrollment, and increase opportunities for students.
