Victims Resource Center

Victims Resource Center Provides services for victims of sexual assault and other crimes. VRC has the right to remove any inappropriate comments.

In 1974, a nationwide rape crisis movement brought awareness of victims' rights to the forefront. A grassroots organization called the Luzerne County Women Organized Against Rape opened it's doors, providing a 24-hour hotline and accompaniment to police interviews, hospital visits, and court proceedings. This was the genesis of the Victims Resource Center (VRC) that today provides assistance to vi

ctims of all types of crimes. In 1979, an office was established in Wilkes-Barre with two staff members. In 1982, the organization's name was changed to Victims Resource Center. VRC continues to broaden it's scope of services, and has opened additional offices in Jim Thorpe, Tunkhannock, and Conyngham.

Today our VRC staff and volunteers had the opportunity to go to Harrisburg as we stand together in support of survivors of sexual assault and advocate for the funding needed to ensure survivors continue receiving critical services and support. Survivors courageously shared their stories, and people in the community came to listen, support, and stand beside them. This was an opportunity to show survivors that they are heard, believed, and supported. Your presence sends a powerful message that our community stands with survivors.
Our voices are stronger together.

Week 2 of VRC's *Employee Spotlight*. This week we showcase Layla!!
Q: What is the most powerful/professional advice you have received?
A: "Never stop learning!"
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of work?
A: I love to read and write. My favorite genre to write includes poetry and fiction.
Q: As we serve three counties, where are your favorite places to go to in each?
A: In Wyoming County up in Tunkhannock they have a book store called The Little Book Place. Getting to explore Carbon County, I came across Morghan Rake Coffee Roasters. They were delicious and have more than coffee they have tea too! Within Luzerne County, The Strange and Unusual was the spot to be and will be again! They are reopening at a different location!
Thank you Layla for your hard work ethic and dedication to support, educate, and advocate for others!
