Advocacy Fund For Grandparents Raising Grandchildren The sky high legal fees for obtaining custody were identified as the main barrier for grandparents and thus, AF4GRG was formed.

GRGAC accepts inquiries and applications for financial assistance with legal fees for grandparents in Luzerne County who are pursuing custody, adoption, or Act 88 court proceedings. AF4GRG began as a support group for grandparents who were raising their grandchildren -a support group that continues today at the New American Heroes.*

This organization started to be due to the perseverance and dete

rmination of several local families, who worked tirelessly to ensure that elected officials became aware of the challenges encountered while raising their grandchildren, specifically regarding children of parents struggling with addiction. State Representative Eddie Day Pashinski listened and collaborated with families and lawmakers to raise awareness and adopt legislation on behalf of grandparents and grandchildren. In 2019, the AF4GRG was awarded $25,000 from the Luzerne Foundation, solidifying the organization’s status. C

Currently, AF4GRG accepts inquiries and applications for financial assistance with legal fees for grandparents in Luzerne County who are pursuing custody, adoption, or Act 88 court proceedings.
