PURPOSEFUL GIVING

Today, we’re highlighting something that many people never see, but something Community CPR depends on every single week.

Our box truck.

When a family loses everything in a house fire, when furniture is donated to help someone start over, or when resources need to be delivered throughout our community, this truck helps make it happen.

The truck isn’t flashy. It’s not something people often notice.

But without it, many of the services Community CPR provides become much more difficult or impossible.

Right now, our greatest need is repairing and replacing parts of the rear door system on our box truck.

Years of service, weather, and wear have taken their toll. The lift door on the back of the truck has rusted and developed holes, and additional door repairs are needed to keep the truck safe and operational for the families we serve.

Our goal is to raise $2,500 to complete these repairs and keep the truck on the road.

We’re looking for individuals, businesses, churches, civic groups, and community partners who believe in the work Community CPR does and would like to make a purposeful investment in this mission.

Maybe one business would like to sponsor the entire project.

Maybe several businesses would like to partner together.

Maybe you can give $25, $50, or $100 toward the goal.

Every dollar helps.

Because this truck isn’t just a vehicle.

It’s the connection between donated items and a family rebuilding after a crisis.

A Father’s Day Reflection

Some legacies aren’t measured in wealth or buildings. They’re measured in the lives they change.

Today, Community CPR is blessed to call The Daniel Building home, but the story behind these walls is really the story of a family whose commitment to faith, hard work, and serving others continues to impact lives every single day.

The building is named for Daniel “Dan’l” Todd, grandfather of Community CPR Founder and Executive Director Wallyce Todd. Throughout Columbus County, he was simply known as “Mr. Dan’l.” He was a man who believed in putting God first, followed by family, community, and work. His son, Lionel Todd, shared those same values, and together they built not only a successful business but a reputation for treating every person with dignity, kindness, and respect.

Long before this became the home of Community CPR, 210 E. Walter Street in Whiteville served as the warehouse location for Todd Furniture Company. It originally operated as a satellite location for used furniture while the family’s main storefront on Madison Street offered new furniture, appliances, floor coverings, and décor. In the early 2000s, Lionel Todd consolidated the business at the warehouse location and leased the Madison Street property, preserving the building that now serves our community in a new way.

But perhaps their greatest legacy wasn’t the business they built, it was the people they helped.

Time and again, Community CPR clients, donors, volunteers, and community members have shared stories about “Mr. Dan’l” and “Mr. Lionel.” Many have told us that when no one else would help, one of those men did. During a time when not everyone was treated equally, they chose compassion over prejudice and extended grace, generosity, and respect to everyone they encountered.

Their servant hearts also led them to the Boys & Girls Home of North Carolina in Lake Waccamaw, where Dan’l Todd served among the organization’s earliest board members. Together, Dan’l and Lionel devoted an estimated 75 years of combined service to the board, investing in generations of children who needed stability, guidance, and hope. Some of those children later described the two men not simply as supporters, but as father figures who changed the course of their lives.

Today, because of the Todd family’s generosity, Community CPR has a place to continue that same mission of serving others.

Every meal shared, every piece of furniture delivered, every family connected to resources, and every life touched within these walls carries forward a legacy that began decades ago.

This Father’s Day, we honor Daniel Todd, Lionel Todd, and all fathers and father figures whose greatest gift to the next generation is a life lived in service to others.

This heartfelt message came from a local therapist who has seen firsthand what happens when people have nowhere else to turn.

Families recovering from devastating house fires.
A client whose wheelchair unexpectedly broke.
Someone simply needing help getting their electricity turned back on.

Every situation was different, but the mission stayed the same: connect people with the resources they need.

We are incredibly grateful for partners like Kathleen and so many others who trust Community CPR to help bridge the gap during life’s most difficult moments.

No one organization can solve every problem alone. But when nonprofits, healthcare providers, therapists, churches, schools, businesses, and community members work together, hope has a way of finding people exactly when they need it most.

At Community CPR, we believe no one should have to face hardship alone.

This message from someone we have had the privilege of collaborating with reminds us why we do what we do:

“Whenever I requested assistance…they helped. They also gave names of other resources that could assist the family.”

That’s what Community CPR is all about, connecting people with people. Sometimes we’re able to provide items that are needed. Other times, we help by connecting families with partner organizations and resources that can step in and make a difference.

No one organization can do everything. But together, our community can do so much more.

To Cynthia, thank you for your kind words and for the work you do to serve others. We’re honored to stand alongside you in helping families across our community.

Nine candles on a cake represent nine years.

But they could never represent the thousands of moments that happened in between.

For the past nine years, Community CPR has been a place where people could turn when life felt overwhelming. A place to find not only help, but hope.

We’ve helped families rebuild after house fires with furniture and clothing. We’ve provided food to those facing empty pantries, hygiene products to those in need, homeless bags to neighbors living without shelter, and the list could go on and on.

Wednesdays at the Warehouse, we’ve opened our doors so people can connect with organizations and resources that can help them take the next step forward. Sometimes the greatest gift isn’t handing someone the answer but it’s helping them find it.

We’ve stood beside our community during local hurricanes and answered the call to serve in the mountains after disaster struck there, proving that compassion knows no county line.

The birthday cake celebrates nine years.

But the real celebration is every volunteer who gave their time, every donor who shared their resources, every partner organization that stood beside us, and every person whose story changed because someone cared enough to help.

Thank you for believing in our mission of connecting people and resources. Here’s to the lives already touched and the many more still to come. 💙
