MEET THE STORYTELLERS! 🎭🌈 Our final storyteller, Kayla Straight!

Kayla Straight spends her days as the Program Director for NAMI Greater Wheeling, helping people navigate mental health challenges, training crisis responders, and reminding everyone that it's okay to ask for help. Turns out, laughing helps too.
When she's not working, she is a wife raising two daughters, wrangling goats, sheep, chickens, and rescue dogs on her family's homestead, volunteering with 4-H, running races she willingly signed up for, and attending bootcamp fitness classes where she regularly questions every life decision that brought her there.

If you've ever wondered what happens when a mental health advocate gets handed a microphone instead of a PowerPoint... you're about to find out.

Partnering with NAMI Wheeling, "What Is Your Q***r Storytelling" is a dynamic night of comedy and storytelling. Isaac is a talented writer and comedian from right here in Wheeling. Most recently, Isaac self-published a collection of short stories, "Manson Wanted to Live Here" and also posts writings on his blog isaaccrowistrying.com. See Isaac and the rest of our comedians and storytellers only on July 24!

Kellie White is a Stained Glass Artist who lives in Wheeling, WV. Originally from Virginia Beach, Wheeling has been her home for nearly a decade. Kellie lives with her partner Bev in their fixer upper, which they lovingly refer to as their Barbie House. Together they wrangle 3 dogs and six ducks. Kellie serves as the Board Co-Chair for The Friendlier City Project.

MEET THE STORYTELLERS! 🎭🌈 Next up, Jay Wallace!

Jay is 54-year-old gay man from Wheeling, West Virginia, whose life has been shaped by both struggle and resilience. For many years, he wrestled with accepting who I was, and that pain eventually led him down the road of addiction. Recovery gave Jay something her had never truly known before—a chance to love himself, live authentically, and believe that his past did not have to define his future. On June 11 of this year, Jay celebrated eight years of sobriety, a milestone that reminds his every day that hope is stronger than despair. Today, he is working toward a degree in Substance Abuse Intervention to walk beside others as they discover that healing and recovery are possible.

MEET THE STORYTELLERS! 🎭🌈 Next up, Nic Cochran!

Nic Cochran is a Wheeling, WV transplant who moved to the Ohio Valley in 2014 from Marietta, Ohio. He moved to Wheeling to attend school at Wheeling (Jesuit) University where he earned a Bachelor of science in psychology. He currently serves as the director of YSS Inc. – Recovery Homes and holds an MSW from Ohio University. He is also a therapist with Harmony. Nic is an advocate for people with mental health issues in general and substance use disorders in particular. In his free time, Nic is a horticulture enthusiast and proud cat dad of two.
