GardenWorks Project

GardenWorks Project We support gardeners who grow food for themselves and our neighbors that need it most.
(3)

Mission: The GardenWorks Project empowers, educates, and promotes organic suburban agriculture to improve the wellbeing of our community, the environment, and families facing food insecurity. We support all gardeners in their efforts to grow and prepare food for themselves and their neighbors in need. Through our residential gardens, we teach organic home vegetable gardening in a way that promotes

self-sufficiency, pride, and good stewardship of the Earth. Our Produce for Pantries program encourages home and community gardeners to grow extra produce to donate to their local food pantries. We provide group education classes on organic gardening topics, and support community and school garden programs with supplies to start or expand their gardens. The GardenWorks Project Suburban Agriculture Resource Center, located at 103 W. Washington St, West Chicago, is where gardeners may obtain garden seeds, borrow garden tools and books, purchase raised bed garden frames, and attend educational classes. The GardenWorks Project Food Growers Network provides those who wish to grow food at home or community gardens with vegetable seeds, discounts on seedlings and raised bed frames, and discounts at We Grow Dreams Nursery in West Chicago. We believe that everyone deserves fresh produce, not only those who have the physical and financial means to afford it.

We here at The GardenWorks Project are thankful for Duly Health and Care’s Charitable Fund for partnering with us during our 2025 growing season! Their support helps us keep doing what we love — getting more fresh, home-grown food into the hands of families in our community and surrounding areas.

Because of support from partners like Duly, we’re able to keep growing, sharing, and tackling food insecurity one garden at a time. 🌿🥕💚

The Harvest Season May Be Ending, But Hunger Isn’t

As The GardenWorks Project wraps up our fresh produce deliveries for the season, we are proud to share that we donated over 5,500 pounds to local food pantries this season from our community gardens but also from home gardeners!

But our work cannot stop as our local food pantry partners continue to experience an increase in demand. We are asking all GardenWorks supporters to continue to make a difference in our fight against food insecurity by supporting our pantry partners and neighbors in need. Please contact your local pantry to learn about their specific needs but our suggestions include:

DONATE shelf-stable foods
GIVE financially to stretch pantry dollars
VOLUNTEER to sort, stock, or distribute
SHARE this post to spread awareness
CHECK on your neighbors to ensure that everyone has food on the table

The GardenWorks Project will be sharing posts from our local food pantry partners throughout the season! If you know of an upcoming food drive or event, please add it in the comments so we can help amplify it!
Together, we grow food. Together, we feed people. 🌱

See comments section for a list and link to our partners.

As we wrap up Hunger Action Month, we’re so grateful for the incredible support we received during our recent food drive. Thanks to our generous community, we were able to deliver donations to help local families in need with help from Hamdard Health Alliance — every item makes a difference! 💚

And on September 22nd, The GardenWorks Project had the opportunity to visit the Lift Market, housed in The Lift Center in Lombard. We enjoyed a wonderful tour, meaningful conversations, and provided our first donation! We’re excited about the opportunity to partner in 2026 to further our shared mission of supporting our communities. 🌱 Thank you to everyone who continues to grow with us!

🥕30 pounds of fresh produce harvested this morning from our New Hope community garden!

This time of year, many gardens begin to slow down, but fall crops thrive in the cooler months—so there’s still plenty to plant, grow, and harvest. We’re grateful to continue gathering food from our gardens to share with local food pantries and neighbors in need.

And we had a special visitor in the garden today—Jiminy Cricket himself made an appearance! 🦗 Looks like even he approves of the harvest.

Thank you, Jackie, for capturing these beautiful photos this morning—we’re so fortunate to have both the bounty and the community that makes it possible. 💚

🥫Thank You for Your Generosity! 🥫

We’re overwhelmed by the incredible support for our recent food drive benefiting the Hamdard Health Alliance Food Pantry. Check out all the donations we received – your contributions will go directly to families in need right here in our community. A special shout-out to our local DuPage County book club for their early donations and support. Your kindness helped kick-start this drive and inspired others to give!

On behalf of Hamdard and The GardenWorks Project, thank you for opening your hearts and cupboards to help our neighbors.
