From Chicago to Louisville, this weekend we will spend two days listening, learning, and reflecting on the legacy of Muhammad Ali and what it means for us today.

Guided by: Imam Dr. Tariq El-Amin, Yaasha Abraham, and Dr. Ihsan Bagby.

Along the journey:
- Reflection and facilitation throughout the ride and in Louisville
- A visit to the Muhammad Ali Center
- Paying respects at Ali’s gravesite
- Workshops and a listening & learning roundtable on the most pressing issues of our time

We’re not just remembering history. We’re learning from the legacies that carried us here and carrying that courage, conviction, and leadership forward.

We want to hear directly from you about the challenges your community is facing, especially amid rising anti-Muslim hate, what support is needed, and what civic power can look like in Rockford. Your voice will help shape our advocacy, organizing, and education efforts.

Every Story Matters. Every Story Fits Together.

Join us for a fun and meaningful quilt-making activity at the library! Share your American story on a paper quilt piece, then add it to our community quilt. As each piece comes together, we’ll create a beautiful display showing how our individual stories connect to create one shared story.

Plus, join the Muslim Civic Coalition, a statewide community advocacy organization, for a listening session to share your input and help shape our advocacy, organizing, and education efforts at a time when your voice matters more than ever.

Together, we’ll honor Muhammad Ali, a proud Black Muslim and courageous civic leader; visit the Muhammad Ali Center; and carry forward the legacy we wrote into Illinois law with Muhammad Ali Day. 🥊

Earlier this month, we joined our partners at the Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice (INPJ) to speak at a Community Townhall hosted by the Cook County Board of Commissioners.

As Cook County prepares for a projected budget shortfall, we were invited to provide public comment in support of protecting community social services while freezing law enforcement spending.

This is one of the many initiatives our partners at INPJ are advancing to address the root causes of socio-economic and racial inequities in our legal system and ultimately end mass incarceration.

Last month, we were proud to attend and sponsor the Palestine Celebration hosted by the CU Muslim Action Committee.

The celebration marked a historic victory: Urbana became the first municipality in Illinois to adopt an ethical investments policy, thanks to the organizing and advocacy of the CU Muslim Action Committee, UC Jews for Ceasefire, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and community members who showed up and made their voices heard.

This is civic justice in action: policy built by first hearing from and amplifying the people most directly impacted.
