Statewide Legal Services of CT, Inc Legal Aid organization in Connecticut serving low income people. At Statewide Legal Services (SLS) we believe knowledge is power.

We are a legal aid advice and referral center helping low-income people solve their legal problems. SLS helps the poorest of the poor; income eligibility limits rarely exceed 150% of the federal poverty guidelines. Our advocates provide free legal advice to Connecticut’s low-income men, women and families in the following areas:

• Divorce, custody, child support and other family matters;
• Public Benefits;
• Housing;
• Unemployment compensation. As a proud member of the Connecticut Network for Legal Aid, SLS works in close collaboration with other legal aid and social service providers. SLS offers a variety of supporting legal services to ensure low income people and their communities understand their rights, remedies and access to our justice system. SLS has an active and engaged network of Pro Bono Attorneys and Paralegals who generously donate their time delivering quality legal assistance to Connecticut men, women and families who would otherwise go without. Most of our Pro Bono cases are received from our legal aid hotline which provides intake, advice and referral services to low income people. SLS’s “Pro Bono Your Way” Program is an innovative approach to meet the demands of busy attorneys and paralegals who want to volunteer. Here, pro bono volunteers select programs that meet their legal interests and level of commitment.

“Pro Bono Your Way” programs include :
• Direct Representation
• Legal Clinics
• Call4Law
• Legal Aid outreach events (e.g. Stand Down Veteran Events )
Participating Pro Bono Attorneys receive full primary professional liability insurance coverage, free on-demand (online) legal education classes, and free legal training courses. SLS also provides legal mentorship & support and networking opportunities in collaboration with area Private Bar Associations. Connections don't happen by accident, and neither does access to justice. ⚖️🤝

We had an amazing time connecting at the YLS events this year, but Pro Bono Month is about extending that connection to our community. With 72% of low-income CT residents facing civil legal issues, your time is needed. Whether it's 20 minutes at a Free Legal Advice Clinic or a few hours with Lawyers in Libraries, you can make a difference.

Watch to the end to find out how to get involved!

We set a $900 goal for our 30th Anniversary Ambassador Campaign, and thanks to this incredible community, we’ve raised $10,302!

We’ve surpassed our goal, but we’re not stopping yet. The campaign’s 30 days wrap up on the 15th, so there’s still time to help us keep this momentum going and expand access to justice across Connecticut.

Want to help us keep going? Donate through the link in our Linktree.

Thank you to every ambassador and supporter who has made this possible!

Before Menudo, before reggaeton, there was salsa. 🎺🔥

In the 1970s, Puerto Rican musicians and the legendary Fania All-Stars turned New York City into the salsa capital of the world. Hector Lavoe, Willie Colón, Celia Cruz, El Gran Combo, all made latin history, not just music.

From the Palladium Ballroom to Yankee Stadium, salsa became the heartbeat of Latino culture. And it's still playing at every family party today.

What's the one salsa song that always gets you on the dance floor? Drop it below!

📚 From the legends to the new wave: The Latino authors defining a generation.

We grew up with the magic of Garcia Marquez and the grit of the Chicano movement. But today’s Latino writers are bringing fresh, unflinching perspectives on identity, immigration, and the American Dream.

Which author should we feature next? Drop it below! 👇

Before *NSYNC, before even Backstreet Boys, there was Menudo!

Formed in 1977, this Puerto Rican group became the most iconic Latino boy band in history. Their secret? Members were replaced when their voices changed during puberty. That revolving door produced stars like Ricky Martin and Draco Rosa. 💫

They sold 3 million albums worldwide, dominated New York City in the 80s, and even got a reboot from Mario Lopez in 2023.

Were you team Menudo? Drop your favorite member below!

This Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15), we're celebrating under the theme "Unidos, Somos Más" — Together, We Are More.

Help us honor the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities! Because our strength at SLS has always come from unity and shared cultural impact.

It all kicks off on Sept. 15th because that's the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Plus, Mexico and Chile celebrate on Sept. 16th and 18th — even more reasons to honor this special month!

There's no wrong way to take part. Just bring your cultura, your pride, and your voice, and let's celebrate the diversity and strength of Hispanic culture unidos!
