Thanks to everyone who attended last night's panel discussion "Black History in Revolutionary Connecticut". Particular recognition is due to our excellent panel (left to right in the photo below) WHS Museum Educator Gillie Johnson, Dr. Akeia de Barros Gomes, WDS TR Revella-Hamilton, and our exceptional moderator, Sandra Taitt-Eaddy. It was a very informative and thought-provoking evening and a perfect way to round out our American Revolution Program Series.

A special thanks to Dr. Richard Bell, who, despite his flight to Hartford being canceled due to bad weather, agreed to speak to Wethersfield Historical Society via Zoom. Equally special thanks to everyone who attended last night's talk, "The French Alliance & The Road to Yorktown". Dr. Bell was an amazing speaker and while I'm sure we all would have preferred to have him in-person, everyone involved deserves kudos for making the very best of a bad situation.

Please help spread the word. While Dr. Richard Bell was originally scheduled to appear in-person to deliver this evening's lecture "The French Alliance & the Road to Yorktown", his flight to Connecticut was canceled due to inclement weather. Dr. Bell has graciously agreed to present his talk in the Keeney Ballroom via Zoom and our digital projector. Tonight's event will take place as scheduled, but Dr. Bell will be speaking remotely. Wethersfield Historical Society regrets any inconvenience and sincerely hope that those of you planning to attend will still do so.

Last Thursday we had the public reading of the Declaration of Independence. Tuesday (this week) we all got to enjoy a concert by Number Nine. Next Tuesday (7/21) at 7pm, we welcome Dr. Richard Bell to the Keeney ballroom to present his lecture "The French Alliance & The Road to Yorktown". History happens every day and Wethersfield and Wethersfield Historical Society can be found right in the thick of it.

DUE TO TOMORROW'S ANTICIPATED HEAT AND HUMIDITY, THIS CONCERT WILL BE MOVED INDOORS TO THE KEENEY CENTER'S AIR-CONDITIONED BALLROOM. FOLDING CHAIRS WILL BE PROVIDED. WE ARE SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE, BUT GRATEFUL THAT THE PERFORMANCE WILL STILL TAKE PLACE.

Wethersfield Historical Society presents Number Nine tomorrow night (Tuesday, July 14 at 6:30 pm) as this year's sole Keeney Koolers offering. This performance will take place in the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center's ballroom (200 Main Street, Wethersfield). Join WHS and Number 9 for a great time. Thanks to the generosity of a single and determined donor, admission is free.

Wethersfield Historical Society is proud to have been a part of the public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8. We count tour guides Gillie Johnson (WHS Museum Educator), Town Crier Mike Munroe (WHS Board Member), and Carol Bruce (long-time WHS Member and volunteer) among our ranks, and the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center, the Hurlbut-Dunham House, and the Cove Warehouse are under our umbrella, too. Let's not forget Ben Franklin portrayed by Wesley Broulik is also a WHS member. Thank you to everyone who came out to be a part of this unique event in our town's and country's history.
