Many of the youth we serve don’t ordinarily have access to beach life and the experiences that so many of us enjoy. Your support helps open that door.

That’s a wrap on our fall camp in Hermosa Beach!

The joy can’t be matched.

Tomorrow we wrap up our Hermosa Beach camp, and we’re going out with joy! 🌊☀️

We can’t wait to see our youth back on the beach for another day of surfing, volleyball, learning with Surfrider | South Bay and community. We have a few surprises in store for our youth and volunteers this week, too! 👀🎉

To every family and volunteer who has been part of our first Hermosa Beach season, thank you for making this new chapter so special. Let’s make tomorrow a beautiful one! 💙

Our Hermosa Beach launch was so special—we did it! 🙌🏾

On our first day at a brand-new site in a new city, we welcomed 60 youth and 65 incredible local volunteers, including 35 local youth volunteers!

Together, we shared a beautiful day of surfing, beach volleyball, environmental education, connection and community.

A huge thank-you to our incredible partners: Heal the Bay for bringing coastal education to the beach; SoCal Beach Foundation, Morgan McCaffrey, alexa and Rom Vega for getting our kids moving, and Patty Hut-Patty Truck for sharing delicious Jamaican food and culture with our community 🇯🇲

Special thanks to all our wonderful volunteers for generously giving their time, energy and dedication in support of our mission.

Thank you to Parks & Recreation Department and the CA State Coastal Conservancy for helping make this expansion possible and to Joan Fuller Photography for so beautifully capturing the joy of the day! 📸

We played reggae all day, spread the love and continued growing our South Bay community. This is what confidence, connection and belonging look like!

We can’t wait for Sunday to do it all again!

We’re so excited to finally get our Hermosa Beach program on the road! In just one week, our young people will be hitting the beach for surfing, volleyball, learning, connection and plenty of fun.

What a journey it’s been!

A heartfelt thank you to Second District Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell and Jessalyn Waldron for your continued belief in and support of Culture Club South Bay.

This journey got kickstarted at Bruce’s Beach in 2021, when Allison met then-Supervisor Janice Hahn at the very first Juneteenth celebration she produced at Bruce’s Beach Park. Supervisor Hahn believed in the vision and helped fund our pilot program, which launched in September 2021 with just 30 children.

When Supervisor Mitchell took over the Second District in 2022, she continued that commitment and has stood beside us each year as we work to create meaningful, lasting change for diverse young people across Los Angeles.

Today, what began with just 30 children has grown to serving more than 800 youth, creating greater access, opportunity, confidence, and belonging through our free beach education and recreation programs.

Supervisor Mitchell and Jesalyn, thank you for believing in our mission, championing our work, and standing with us as we continue to build a stronger, more connected South Bay community.

We are grateful for you. Much respect. ❤️
