As cross-trained firefighters and EMS providers, our commitment has always been to provide the highest level of care to the citizens who call us during their worst moments. That commitment requires a continual investment in our people, our training, and our EMS system.

The appointment of a Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator (PECC) is another example of how the West Bend Fire Department continues to move our organization forward and ensure we are providing the gold standard of prehospital care to our community’s youngest and most vulnerable patients.

The role of the PECC extends far beyond a title. It represents a dedication to strengthening pediatric protocols, advancing continuing education, reviewing equipment and medications, improving patient care processes, and building stronger relationships with our emergency department partners. While pediatric emergencies may occur less frequently, the complexity and emotional impact of these calls demand that we are prepared every single time.

Investing time into this role is an investment in our membership’s knowledge and confidence, and ultimately, in the safety and wellbeing of the families we serve.

Congratulations to FF/Paramedic Trevor Potkay on his appointment as West Bend Fire Department’s Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator. We appreciate his willingness to take on this responsibility and help ensure our department remains at the forefront of prehospital emergency care.

Members of West Bend Professional Fire Fighters Local 2025 attended this meeting to learn more about the proposed countywide Fire/EMS levy and its potential impact on our communities.

As discussions continue regarding the future of Fire and EMS services in Washington County, one question remains: In three years, since this project started, when have the citizens, patients, EMS providers, firefighters, and frontline personnel of West Bend and Washington County been given a meaningful voice—or sufficient information—to understand how a project of this size could affect emergency response, service delivery, local departments, and taxpayers?

Decisions involving public safety deserve transparency, stakeholder engagement, and open dialogue. Those who rely on these services—and those who provide them every day—should have an opportunity to be informed and heard throughout this process.

We encourage residents to contact their local elected officials, county supervisors, municipal leaders, and other government representatives to ask questions, seek additional information, and understand how this proposal may impact their community. An informed public is essential when considering significant changes to the delivery and funding of Fire and EMS services.
Public safety affects all of us. Stay engaged, ask questions, and make your voice heard.

The next Public Safety Committee Meeting is being held at the Washington County Court House on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 7:00 a.m.

The proposed county fire and EMS levy discussed at a listening session with Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann. Learn more about the plans.
