As cross-trained firefighters and EMS providers, our commitment has always been to provide the highest level of care to the citizens who call us during their worst moments. That commitment requires a continual investment in our people, our training, and our EMS system.
The appointment of a Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator (PECC) is another example of how the West Bend Fire Department continues to move our organization forward and ensure we are providing the gold standard of prehospital care to our community’s youngest and most vulnerable patients.
The role of the PECC extends far beyond a title. It represents a dedication to strengthening pediatric protocols, advancing continuing education, reviewing equipment and medications, improving patient care processes, and building stronger relationships with our emergency department partners. While pediatric emergencies may occur less frequently, the complexity and emotional impact of these calls demand that we are prepared every single time.
Investing time into this role is an investment in our membership’s knowledge and confidence, and ultimately, in the safety and wellbeing of the families we serve.
Congratulations to FF/Paramedic Trevor Potkay on his appointment as West Bend Fire Department’s Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator. We appreciate his willingness to take on this responsibility and help ensure our department remains at the forefront of prehospital emergency care.
