Due to inclement weather our training department had to pivot to indoor training this week. Our members rotated through three stations which covered a wide variety of skills and topics.

The first station was a review of Webster's extensive trail system and how we can use GPS to assist personnel in knowing where to go and the best trails to take.

Another station covered exertional heat emergencies and how we can best assist our EMS partners with supplying personnel and water to help cool down a patient in crisis.

The third station was a good skills review of how we can use a low angle rope system and stokes basket to extricate a patient who is unable to walk independently.

The Webster Volunteer Fire Department and North East Joint Fire District announce the 2026 Summer Probationary Recruit Class. Three new members began their training on Monday, June 15. Probationary firefighters Jimmy Cologgi, Keith DuBois, and Brad Ralston will receive instruction under the direction of Captain Mike Burdick, Lieutenant Jacob Povio, and Webster Volunteer Fire Department peer trainers. Firefighter Cologgi is a career firefighter with the Brighton Fire District, and Firefighter Ralston previously served as an interior firefighter with the Webster Volunteer Fire Department.

Jimmy Cologgi, Keith DuBois, and Brad Ralston are now part of the department and are beginning their probationary period.

We are currently responding to several calls for fallen trees and downed power lines. Please exercise caution when driving and remember to treat all downed wires as live wires!

Our members had the opportunity to spend time training with our West Webster brothers and sisters at a recent "Got Water?" training by Vigilent Fire Training taught by Chief Klein and Chief Dorgan. This advanced water supply course demonstrates methods for maximizing water supply flow rates and provides an opportunity for apparatus pump operators to take their skills to the next level.

At this week's drill we were joined by Joseph and Mike, both gas supervisors with RGE. They led an engaging lecture on the dangers of gas emergencies and how first responders can keep themselves and the public safe.

Just as we were reviewing the applications of the gas meters that we use, a crew put one to use by responding to a CO alarm call. The education continued while a crew responded to the call.

On Friday, June 5, 2026, at approximately 10:37 a.m., the Webster Fire Department responded to a house fire at 180 Cranbrook Terrace in Webster, NY. A working fire was declared, prompting immediate mutual aid from the West Webster Fire Department and Lincoln Fire Rescue.

Arriving crews found heavy fire in the home's attached garage. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to the living area and a neighboring residence.

The Webster Fire Department received assistance from the Monroe County Fire Bureau, Webster Police Department, and Penfield Webster EMS. Due to the incident's manpower demands, a second alarm was requested, bringing additional firefighters from Penfield, NY Fire Company and Ontario Fire Company . District coverage was provided by the Irondequoit Fire District and Fairport Fire Department while Webster crews were involved in the response.

The fire was brought under control in roughly 35 minutes. No injuries were reported among homeowners or responding firefighters. Crews remained on scene for about two hours to conduct overhaul operations, extinguish hotspots, and investigate the cause of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, at about 10:55 a.m., the Webster Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 1640 Harris Road in Webster, NY. The Penfield, NY Fire Company, West Webster Fire Department, and Lincoln Fire Rescue also assisted at the scene.

When the first crews arrived, they found a large single-family home at the end of a long private driveway with heavy fire visible in the garage, spreading into the living areas. Firefighters quickly began to fight the fire and brought it under control. The fire was fully extinguished within about 40 minutes.

Due to the hot weather and challenges accessing the property, support was requested from Ontario Fire Company and Fairport Fire Department. The Monroe County Fire Bureau, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, and Penfield Webster EMS also provided assistance on scene.

Fire crews remained at the property for about three and a half hours to investigate the fire and put out any remaining hot spots.

The homeowner was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
