Gray makes sure to keep his old boot close at all times 😂

Seriously, what will we do when he’s completely torn them to shreds? We’re getting close to that point and I’m worried for the rest of my shoes

Today is Twyla’s first anniversary with us!

Twyla was a hungry, skittish 8 month old feral kitten when she emerged from the woods behind our house last summer.

She’s STILL very skittish, even with people she sees throughout the day. But she finds comfort and safety in her friend Oliver, and cries out for him when she can’t find him in the usual places. They’re rarely far apart, and it’s so lovely to watch them together.

Twyla is learning how to play, and occasionally allows me to scratch her back and neck. Her eyes and shoulders have softened. She knows the routine, and gets a little sassy when her dinner is late 😹.

We’d love for her and Oliver to move inside, but closed doors are terrifying at the moment. We will continue to foster a sense of safety and security, with hope that in time they will retire indoors. For now, we will keep them as safe as possible and provide the comforts of home on their chosen back porch.

We love you, Twyla! Here’s to many more anniversaries 😻

A huge thank you to the person/people who sent items off our wishlist last week! All of this was very much needed, and I’ve been adding more items as I think of them. Can’t wait to give the scratch brush to the cats…stay tuned!

We are so grateful for the community that supports us. Sometimes it feels a little lonely doing this work…but then, suddenly, a donation arrives and we remember there are others out there who care about our mission and our residents ❤️

Just over 4 years ago, Zoe was living on a property where the animals weren’t cared for properly, and several didn’t make it to safety.

Now she spends her days grazing, napping, making sure the humans know when it’s meal time, and lounging in her wallow. ☀️

Good morning and happy Friday from everyone’s favorite woodland fairy pig, Sylvie 🧚

If you’re new here, Sylvie was found living in a wooded area of eastern NC after escaping from one of the large factory farms in the area. With the help of our friends at Sisu Refuge, including a piglet named Mr. Pancakes, she was lured out and transported to safety. Next month will be Sylvie’s 4th anniversary here at Share the Moon!

We had a great tour yesterday with our friend Lynda and her friend Jennifer. Jennifer just relocated to the area, and Lynda has been introducing her to some of the sanctuaries in the area. They even brought watermelon for everyone, which is coming in handy with the hot temperatures this week. Thanks for the visit, ladies!

If you are near western North Carolina and would like a tour or want to volunteer, please message us 😊

Gray had an appointment to see our friends at today. Toby had chronic ear infections so we were there almost monthly with him, but Gray has so far been healthy.

He has had an on and off limp favoring his back left leg for a month or so, but since Friday it has been persistent. Dr. Crawford thinks it’s safe to take a conservative approach for now, and treat with meds and rest. If it doesn’t improve then we’ll move to more in-depth testing with X-rays.

Gray does not like the car (that’s a first for us!), and gets so nervous in unfamiliar places. He started with his tail tucked, but got excited when he saw all the other dogs in the lobby 🥹. He was best buds with his vet tech by the end of the visit! Of course, then I had to wrestle him back into the van, and my next job is to clean up his vomit 🫠.
