A big THANK YOU to Coast of Maine Organic Products and Smoky Mountain Farmers Co-op in Waynesville for their donation of raised bed mix to help fill our new elevated raised beds! ❤️ All of our produce that we grow is 100% organic and this product will help with organic nutrients for our produce that will be distributed to the food insecure in our community. 🌻

Planting Day #2 done! We planted lots of veggies in our new metal raised beds. The veggies that need more room like squash were planted in the older big beds. Our special homemade compost was used in the holes where the veggies were planted and mounded around the plants. We also installed one of our new bean trellises made from heavy wire cattle panels. Thank you to our wonderful volunteer crew that have worked so hard to make this happen. Now we water and do our rain dances! 💦 🌻

Planting day #1 begins!!! We had a lot happening that morning. We planted our white potatoes in our big tater patch, red potatoes in a wood elevated bed, and lots of onions in another bed. Another crew was filling the new steel elevated beds with organic enriched soil. Our volunteers are working hard to get the gardens growing! Thank you! ❤️ More plantings to come… 🌻

All our hard work in the gardens is paying off! We finished moving 15 cubic yards of mulch into the gardens, all with buckets and wheelbarrows. The mulch now covers all the walking paths in the garden, the perennial flower beds and border. We also used the mulch to partially fill the new elevated beds. Just for fun, we pulled up the potato stragglers from last season and were surprised that we actually harvested a few! Thank you volunteers for your hard work and dedication ❤️🌻

Another hard work day to continue our renovations. We started placing cardboard in our pathways which will be covered with a thick layer of mulch. This should help reduce weeds. A few more steel raised beds were assembled and placed. We then started filling the new raised beds with cardboard, leaves that we collected last fall and then mulch. We’ll finish with a thick top layer of premium raised bed soil. Many thanks to this wonderful crew of hard working volunteers, you’re doing a great job!!! There’s a lot of work still to do but we’re getting it done! 🌻
