Although our organization is for everyone, our organization represents those who have an unconventional path to the slopes. Our organization strives to spread financial literacy and exercise via snowboarding to an underserved market in an "unconventional"
way. Some of us are first generation riders who pursue the sport even when our families don't understand our reaso

ning or our why. We spend hours in the car, brave harsh winter conditions all just to touch some snow. Well from Southside to the slopes we've made it.

It was so much fun getting to share this experience with the kids. It’s always a pleasure partnering with Emerald Youth Foundation to create opportunities and exposure for youth through Southside Boarding Club. Already looking forward to next year! ❄️🏂

February 22nd was another special day on the mountain for Southside Boarding Club at Cataloochee Ski Resort.

This year we had an incredible group of young people join us from Girl Talk, Emerald Youth Foundation, and the Knoxville Area Urban League’s National Achievers Society.

The most powerful part? Nearly 90% of the kids had never been to a ski resort before.
That’s what this is all about.
Exposure. Opportunity. New experiences.

Watching these young people step onto the snow for the first time, challenge themselves, laugh, fall, get back up, and cheer each other on reminds us why this work matters so much.

A huge thank you to Alpine Ski Center, an incredible partner who continues to support this mission year after year. Their generosity allows us to provide gear and equipment at no cost to Southside Boarding Club or the kids we serve. We truly couldn’t do this without them.

I also want to recognize the amazing volunteers and their families who show up every season and give their time so graciously. Your commitment to these young people does not go unnoticed.

And finally, a special thank you to my wife Chantena and our daughters Milan and Monroe. They support this mission wholeheartedly and often allow me to be absent at times so I can be present for the youth in our program. Their love and encouragement make this work possible.

As Southside Boarding Club enters our fourth season, we pause with gratitude and pride. What began as an idea rooted in access and opportunity has now grown into a movement of over 200 youth served, countless first turns on snow, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Recently we had the chance to meet Zeb Powell, a professional snowboarder whose home mountain is Cataloochee Ski Area. This is the very place where our kids learn, fall, laugh, and rise again. So needless to say it was a very inspirational day.🏂🏾

Our mission has always been about more than snowboarding. It’s about exposure, confidence, and possibility. It’s about creating moments where a young rider can see themselves not just participating but thriving.

Watching the kids interact with Zeb was a reminder that impact doesn’t always come in big speeches. Sometimes, it shows up as a shared mountain, a conversation, and a moment that quietly changes how a young person sees their future.

We’re excited about what’s ahead and hopeful this connection with Zeb is just the beginning. As we look forward, we invite you to be part of our journey.

This past weekend was nothing short of incredible for Southside Boarding Club. We had the privilege of introducing close to 40 inner-city kids to the thrill of snowboarding at Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. For the majority of them it was their first time experiencing the magic of snowboarding, and their excitement was contagious.

This trip wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity and support of so many incredible individuals and organizations. A huge thank you to Brian Keith Redmond and Redmond Auto Group for donating two trucks that helped us transport our gear safely to and from the resort. Big shout out to Making Mayhem for the fresh clothing helping to make sure we always look good on the slopes. We are also deeply grateful to Alpine Ski Center for providing snowboards and snowboarding gear, ensuring that our kids had everything they needed to hit the slopes with confidence.

Of course, none of this could have happened without our dedicated volunteers and the nonprofit organizations that partnered with us. Your time, energy, and passion made this weekend unforgettable. From helping the kids gear up to guiding them down their first runs, you played a vital role in making this experience a success.

At Southside Boarding Club, our mission is to break down barriers and give kids from underserved communities the chance to explore the world of snowboarding. This trip was a testament to what’s possible when people come together to create opportunities. Watching our kids conquer their fears, gain new skills, and build friendships on the slopes was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

Thank you to everyone who made this weekend special. We’re already looking forward to the next adventure!
