Fall is here, which means it's a good time to give your outdoor flag a quick checkup.

Take a look for fraying edges, fading, torn seams, or other signs of wear. Seasonal winds and changing weather can be especially tough on outdoor flags.

Proper care can help extend the life of your flag—but when a flag becomes too worn for respectful display, it should be retired with dignity.

"American company" and "American-made" don't necessarily mean the same thing.

If buying a Made in USA American Flag matters to you, take a few extra seconds to check the label and verify its country of origin.

Better yet, look for the FMAA Certification Seal.

Consumers deserve to know where the products they purchase come from, especially when that product is the symbol of the United States itself.

: The United States has had 27 official versions of the American Flag since the original flag was adopted in 1777.

As new states joined the Union, new stars were added to represent them.

Today's 50-star flag was officially introduced on July 4, 1960, after Hawaii became the 50th state.

It's a design that tells the story of a nation that grew from 13 states to 50.

Flag Etiquette Tip: Traditionally, the American Flag is displayed from sunrise to sunset. However, the U.S. Flag Code allows the flag to remain displayed 24 hours a day when it is properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

If Old Glory flies outside your home or business around the clock, make sure she's visible after sunset.

Respect for the flag is in the details.
