❤️ WHAT DOES WATERTOWN MAIN STREET DO?
Pillar #2: Community Engagement
When we talk about Downtown Watertown, we’re not just talking about buildings, storefronts and businesses.
We’re talking about people.
One of the four pillars of the Watertown Main Street Program is Community Engagement—and this is where a lot of the magic happens.
Community Engagement is about creating opportunities for people to connect with each other, connect with downtown, and feel like they are part of something bigger.
So, what does that look like?
🤝 PARTNERSHIPS
WMSP works alongside the City of Watertown, local businesses, nonprofit organizations, community groups, schools, service clubs and other community partners. We know we can accomplish more when we work together.
🎉 ACTIVITIES & EVENTS
From Music on Main and The Big Pop Up to Women’s Only Weekend, the Farmers Market, Witches’ Brew Bingo, Art on Main and other downtown activities, we create opportunities for people to come downtown, have fun and experience everything our community has to offer.
🙋♀️ VOLUNTEERISM
Downtown doesn’t happen alone!
Volunteers help with events, downtown clean-up efforts, beautification projects and so much more. Sometimes it’s an individual who gives an hour. Sometimes it’s a group that rolls up their sleeves and tackles a project together.
Every bit of it matters.
📣 AWARENESS
Part of our job is also telling the story of Downtown Watertown.
We want residents to know what is happening downtown. We want people to know about our businesses, events, improvements and opportunities. And we want our community to understand the important role a vibrant downtown plays in the larger Watertown community.
❤️ CONNECTION
Ultimately, Community Engagement is about creating a downtown where people want to come together.
A place where you run into someone you know.
A place where you make a new connection.
A place where families gather, friends meet, businesses collaborate and community members feel welcome.
Because a successful downtown isn't simply a collection of businesses.
It is a community.
And WMSP is proud to help bring that community together.
