Our friends at the VFW are hosting a Brat Fry on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM–3:00 PM at Glenn’s Brat Haus, 722 W. Main St, Watertown.

Every dollar raised goes directly to scholarship funds, so your lunch helps support local students and honors the service of our veterans. If you’re free, stop by for good food, good company, and a great cause.

Proud to stand with our fellow vets in this mission.

Our newsletter is on its way, but we didn’t want to wait to share this. Please help us welcome our newest member to Post 189 — we’re grateful for every person who chooses to be part of this community.

And this month’s Veteran Spotlight features Nelson Fischer, a 96‑year‑old Army veteran and 30‑year member of Post 189. Nelson’s story is one of service, family, music, and staying active in the community he loves. He’s a reminder that connection and routine can carry you through a lifetime.

Post 189 had a standout month, proudly earning the 2026 Post Membership Retention Award for keeping over 95% of our 2025 members engaged, along with the 100% Post Commander Award recognizing Commander Stephen Zillmer for meeting every membership goal ahead of convention.

These achievements reflect a post that’s active, committed, and growing — and we want to build on that momentum. We’re encouraging new members to join, asking current members to attend meetings more regularly, and inviting everyone to get more involved in the work we’re doing for veterans and our community. A new newsletter is about to be released, packed with updates on upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and ways to stay connected.

If you haven’t already, follow Post 189 on Facebook to stay up to date — and we’ll see you next month.

The Watertown Legion 17U and 19U teams delivered a summer that will stand out as one of the most historic in Post 189’s history, with both squads earning Regional Championships and advancing to their respective State Tournaments — the first time (or at least in the past 25 years) our program has ever sent two teams to State in the same season.

The 17U roster of Evret Roethle, Owen Wegner, Ryan Zweig, Connelly Cashin, Parker Gutzdorf, Nathan Dula, Darren Hendricks, Cooper Kaufmann, Thomas Walter, Ty Kortendick, Jackson Hamann, and Kellen Meuller added to their accomplishments with a strong 2nd place finish at the Marinette Firecracker Tournament and a determined run to become State Runners‑Up in Chippewa Falls.

The 19U team—Rich Padron, Andy Cashin, Hayden Doede, Alex David, Evan Van Sickle, Landon Washetas, Blake Stamper, Connelly Cashin, Dan Schauer, Drew Schauer, Xavier Gentz, Davis Cashin, and Owen Wegner—claimed the District 6 Regional Championship and battled through the State field in Marshfield with grit and pride.

Both teams were recognized at this month’s Post 189 membership meeting, where Rich Padron spoke at length about their incredible seasons and how proud he is of the boys, highlighting just how meaningful this achievement is for the program. Together, these two squads showcased the strength of Watertown baseball and the spirit of Post 189, making this a truly unforgettable year.

Watertown showed its strength this summer, and the energy around Post 189 has never been higher. These boys reminded the community what dedication, teamwork, and hometown pride look like, and the support from families, fans, and Legion members pushed that spirit even further. Their drive set a new standard for what’s possible here, and the excitement they brought into the Legion hall this month proves that the future of Watertown baseball is bright. As we look ahead, we carry that same pride forward — building on this momentum, backing the next wave of players, and continuing to grow a program that reflects the heart of our community. Watertown is rising, and we’re just getting started.
