Ricardo Gonzalez, a U.S. citizen and former Long Beach city employee, was riding his bike through his own neighborhood on Saturday when federal immigration agents detained him. His family says an unmarked ICE vehicle knocked him to the ground and agents tased him twice. Video of the encounter shows him handcuffed and face down in a gutter, with ICE officers kneeling on his back.

Now, the mayor is demanding answers from DHS and Congressman Robert Garcia has called for an investigation: “The videos are horrific and should concern not just our community but the country.” DHS, which oversees ICE, still has not said why Gonzalez was detained — the latest in a string of violent encounters in the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, one week after an ICE vehicle struck and ran over a man in Houston.

Citizenship did not protect Ricardo Gonzalez; DHS must answer for every agent involved.

Today, On the Move with Janet Murguía rolled into Phoenix to spend the day with the families, organizers and local leaders who keep Arizona running.

With Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Gallardo and Raquel Terán of Proyecto Progreso, we talked about keeping every eligible voter safe and informed at the ballot box. Over lunch, our Phoenix Affiliates shared how rising costs are hitting the families they serve. In District 7, Councilwoman Anna Hernandez, residents and business owners showed us what it takes to make ends meet.

Latinos contribute more than $117 billion a year to Arizona's economy, yet 43% of Latino households here spend more than 30% of their income on housing. Our families deserve an economy that works for them, and they’ll be heard in just 18 days.

Early voting is open in Arizona and in most states across the country. Vote with confidence. Make your plan to vote and have your voice heard by Nov. 3.

On Saturday in Houston, an unmarked ICE vehicle ran over a man who was not the target of their operation, breaking both of his legs. Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare says video makes it “pretty obvious” he was intentionally run over, and his office is weighing aggravated assault charges.

At least 22 people have been shot by immigration agents this year. In case after case, we’ve seen ICE use reckless force where it wasn’t necessary and then bury evidence when they come under scrutiny.

Our Immigration Policy Framework is clear: enforcement must include body-worn cameras and limits on force, and public confidence depends on knowing officers are following the law. ICE must release all body camera footage, preserve evidence, and cooperate fully with local investigators. Congress must put real guardrails on enforcement. No badge puts anyone above the law.

America has never had a Latino contribution gap, it has a record-keeping gap. The record is still being written and history is happening right now, in the decisions we make today. There are already 250 chapters on the record. The next one is yours to write.

As we close out Hispanic Heritage Month, the story doesn't end here — it continues at the ballot box. 🗳️

We asked 2,700 working-class Latinos how they're really doing: 40% say they're worse off than a year ago, 62% struggle to afford groceries and 51% couldn't cover a surprise $1,000 expense without borrowing. The bottom line: Latinos make up 20% of the American workforce and add $4.4 trillion to our economy, but the economy isn't giving back.

It's time for the U.S. to build an economy that gives back as much as Latinos put in. Any person who works hard should be able to afford groceries and healthcare, pay rent without stress and still have time to take care of their family.
