The mission of the CHCI-AA is to promote active and visible leadership in the community, while providing members with increased opportunities for professional development, networking and, most importantly, opportunities to mentor our Latino youth. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Alumni Association (CHCI-AA) was established in 1998 as a group of former CHCI fellows for the purpose of
establishing a national network of Hispanic/Latino professionals and leaders dedicated to the advancement and development of alumni of the CHCI Public Policy Fellowship Program. In 2012, the AA recognized graduates of the High School Latino Leaders in DC Program as junior alumni of the association. Today, the mission of the CHCI-AA is to support CHCI in developing the next generation of Latino leaders through lifelong alumni engagement and leadership advancement. It envisions CHCI alumni actively engaged in developing Latino leaders, involved civically in their communities, supporting CHCI’s programs, and continually developing their own professional and leadership skills. In support of CHCI’s 2010-2015 Strategic Plan: Keeping the Promise, the CHCI-AA’s primary objective is to promote the lifelong engagement of its membership to give back to CHCI and the Latino community. It meets these objectives by:
- Providing professional development opportunities for members
- Advancing volunteer and mentoring support for CHCI program participants
- Promoting alumni giving and fundraising efforts for CHCI
- Elevating the visibility and engagement of alumni via various social media platforms in support of CHCI mission
