MOVEIUS Contemporary Ballet was founded in 2010 to catalyze the creation and public presentation of innovative, accessible, and thoughtful contemporary ballet. An ensemble company, MOVEIUS strives to present new works in the classical ballet idiom, as well as restaging works of historical importance to the DC Metro community and promoting cross-disciplinary and adventurous collaborations with arti

sts and musicians. Since its inception, MOVEIUS has performed in a variety of venues in Maryland, DC, Virginia, and North Carolina, including Dance Place, Atlas Performing Arts Center, Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center, the GALA Theatre at Tivoli Square, and Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, and the Booth Playhouse in Charlotte, North Carolina, and looks forward to a series of spring 2014 appearances at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Called “challenging, attractive, and adventuresome” by Washington Post reporter Lisa Traiger, MOVEIUS has received critical acclaim and enthusiastic press coverage from Washington Post, Huffington Post, DC Metro Theater Arts, Charlotte Observer, Washingtonian and Bethesda Magazines, among others.

Flourish closes Moveius Contemporary Ballet’s milestone 10th Anniversary Season with an evening of bold premieres and defining voices in contemporary ballet. The celebratory program features Forever is a Feeling, Diana Movius’s newest work created as Resident Artist with the National Portrait Gallery, alongside world premieres by 10th Anniversary guest artist Jenelle Figgins—DC native and Princess Grace Award winner—acclaimed choreographer Royce Zackery, and a new quartet by Moveius’s Ballet Master Adam Chavis.

A celebration of artistic growth and forward momentum, Flourish honors a decade of creative risk while spotlighting the next chapter of innovation.

On June 13, join us for Moveius Contemporary Ballet’s annual Soirée Fundraiser! Witness an inspiring performance and then raise a glass to 10 years of Moveius Ballet in an evening of artistry, community, and delicious treats. All funds raised support the company’s continued growth as a powerhouse of local innovation in contemporary ballet. Our 10th Ann Soirée is hosted by board members Jonathan Thomas & Megan Kimmins.

Unmeasured - ICONS Choreographers’ Collective

In this reconstruction of Love Language, Alvaro Palau brings to light an often overlooked fact: dancers are people too. ‘Unmeasured’ showcases the company’s strength and athleticism, their connection to each other, and how they present themselves to the audience. At 2 PM, come and see how Unmeasured will raise the ‘barre,’ along with Cascade by Adam Chavis, this Saturday!

Echoes We Carry - ICONS Choreographers’ Collective

Royce Zackery presents his newest work-in-progress for Moveius Contemporary Ballet. The first installment of Echoes We Carry will be performed at Atlas Performing Arts Center for ICONS, with the completed world premiere being presented at Flourish, Moveius’ Season Finale. Royce is an intentional and thoughtful choreographer, creating dynamic movement and continuously pushing the boundaries of what his dancers are capable of. You can experience this for yourself at 7pm, along with Diana Movius’ Forever is a Feeling!
