MOVEIUS Contemporary Ballet was founded in 2010 to catalyze the creation and public presentation of innovative, accessible, and thoughtful contemporary ballet. An ensemble company, MOVEIUS strives to present new works in the classical ballet idiom, as well as restaging works of historical importance to the DC Metro community and promoting cross-disciplinary and adventurous collaborations with arti

sts and musicians. Since its inception, MOVEIUS has performed in a variety of venues in Maryland, DC, Virginia, and North Carolina, including Dance Place, Atlas Performing Arts Center, Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center, the GALA Theatre at Tivoli Square, and Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, and the Booth Playhouse in Charlotte, North Carolina, and looks forward to a series of spring 2014 appearances at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Called “challenging, attractive, and adventuresome” by Washington Post reporter Lisa Traiger, MOVEIUS has received critical acclaim and enthusiastic press coverage from Washington Post, Huffington Post, DC Metro Theater Arts, Charlotte Observer, Washingtonian and Bethesda Magazines, among others.

A Performance to Remember.

Flourish was the culmination of 10 years of hard work, and we can't thank everyone enough. With a weekend that was filled with sold out shows, a soirée to remember, and spectacular performances that audience members raved about afterwards, Moveius has truly flourished. Thank you to our wonderful supporters & generous donors, our hardworking staff members & volunteers, our fantastic board members + choreographers, & a one of a kind artistic staff and company, for a wonderful 10th season! Congratulations, and cheers to another 10 years!

Echoes We Carry, by Royce Zackery, is a deeply human exploration of memory, truth, identity, and the fragile spaces between them. Through three interconnected sections–Black Fog, Numbing Laughter, & Echoes We Carry–the work journeys through the emotional and psychological realities of confronting loss, not only the loss of memory, but the gradual unraveling of self.

Halfway to Harmony, by Jenelle Figgins, is a study in universal polarities, the tensions, contradictions, and coexisting forces that shape every layer of existence.

This excerpt, set to Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," distills that vision into its most intimate form: a duet between two dancers who serve as the architects of creation itself. Together, they move through the matrices of cause and effect, constructing and deconstructing the systems that define their world. Their partnership is not resolution, it is the work before resolution. The labor of building, of reaching, of standing at the threshold between what is and what could be.

In just 1 week, Desert Dream by Adam Chavis will entrance the audience with its fluid and intimate movements.

Desert Dream is a collaborative ballet set to live music by Jerrett Fowler's original composition, Desert Dream. Through the interplay of dancers and live music onstage, Desert Dream highlights the relationship between movement and music, inviting audience members to immerse themselves in the shared energy, emotion, and spontaneity of live performance. The ballet features guest Principal artist Marcelo Martinez with Emily Hashiguchi, Misha Glouchkova, and choreographer
