Abington Heights Civic League The AHCL was founded in 1931 as the Abington Junior Women's Club for the purpose of introducing young women between the ages of 17 and 28.

Historical Highlights

The AHCL was founded in 1931 as the Abington Junior Women's Club for the purpose of introducing young women between the ages of 17 and 28 to the workings of the Federated Women's Club. In 1978, the Juniors became the AHCL and membership is now open to any woman in the community over 17 years old who is interested in belonging and supporting our mission. In 1947, we ini

tiated the formation of kindergarten at Grove Street Elementary School. Since that time, we began vision screening of all students registering for kindergarten (1970). We purchase Christmas trees for each kindergarten class in the Abington Heights School District. This has been ongoing since 1974. For almost 50 years, we have sponsored the Trick or Treat for UNICEF campaign through our school district. We have also done fingerprinting, with permission of the parents, at Abington Heights and Our Lady of Peace schools. Other school related programs that we offer are scholarships given to graduating seniors and the sponsorship of a sophmore which enables them to attend the Hugh O'Brien Youth Foundation Leadership Seminar (HOBY). We have "adopted" a 2 mile stretch of Grove Street through PennDOT to pick up litter. At the Clarks Summit State Hospital, we have "adopted" a male ward and provide refreshments each month and gifts at the holidays. Our crowning achievement is the Abington Heights Civic League Dance Academy. This began in 1957 for children aged 3-18 with the proceeds of the annual recital going to local needy children in our community.

🇺🇸 Thank You for Making Our 8th Annual Abington Area First Responders Appreciation Event a Success! 🇺🇸
On May 17, 2026, our community came together to celebrate and honor the dedicated first responders who serve and protect us every day. This special event also proudly kicked off National EMS Week, recognizing the lifesaving work of EMS professionals throughout our region.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, sponsored, and helped make this year's event such a memorable day. From the delicious BBQ and fellowship to the station tours, demonstrations, games, and community connections, your support helped show our first responders just how much they are appreciated.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our event host, the Dalton Fire Company, our generous sponsors, community partners, and the many volunteers who worked behind the scenes to make the day possible.

Most importantly, thank you to all of our firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and emergency service volunteers for your unwavering commitment, sacrifice, and service to our communities.

Together, we continue to build a stronger, safer, and more appreciative community.

📸 Enjoy some highlights from this year's event and relive the wonderful memories!
