Jesse Helms has been out of Congress for more than two decades, but his harmful abortion restrictions have shaped health care access for people around the world for 50 years.

Our latest Washington Memo digs into the Congressional Record, connects that history to today’s expanded Global Gag Rule, and makes the case for taking Helms out of the driver’s seat.

A choice for all means having the freedom to decide if and when to become pregnant, and access to the contraception needed to make that decision.

This , we’re calling on U.S. leaders to protect international family planning funding, get already-purchased contraceptives to the people who need them, and make sure funds approved by Congress are put to work.

When climate disasters strike, women and girls face immense risks ranging from disruptions to reproductive health care, pregnancy complications, increased gender-based violence, and lost educational opportunities.

In a new Ms. Magazine op-ed, PAI President & CEO Nabeeha Kazi Hutchins explains why climate policy must reflect this reality. From Pakistan to North Carolina, she makes the case that climate resilience depends on protecting the health, rights, and safety of women and girls.

At PAI, we believe climate adaptation isn't just about infrastructure. It's about ensuring women and girls can access the care and support they need before, during, and after climate emergencies.

This week, we welcomed an incredible group of emerging leaders to the Freedom Starts With Her Youth Institute for Reproductive Rights.

Over the next two weeks, these students and recent graduates will build the skills, knowledge, and connections as they refine their advocacy approaches for sexual and reproductive health and rights. Through hands-on workshops, conversations with experts, and real-world advocacy training, they're preparing to turn their passion into action.

We can't wait to see what they'll accomplish over the next few weeks, and beyond!

Three years after the Dobbs decision, advocates in the United States are still fighting to protect reproductive freedom.

The challenges we face today from abortion restrictions at home to policies like the expanded Global Gag Rule abroad underscore the importance of working together.

For decades, PAI and our partners around the world have built coalitions to defend rights, influence policy, and hold leaders accountable. Along the way, we've learned valuable lessons about what makes coalitions successful and what can undermine them.

Our Coalition-Building Toolkit shares those lessons so advocates, organizations, and movements can strengthen their collective impact.

Because meaningful change happens when people come together around a shared purpose.

PAI President & CEO Nabeeha Kazi Hutchins spoke with Rachel Hagan for The Independent about Marco Rubio's recent testimony describing the Trump administration's refusal to distribute $10 million in contraceptives purchased as aid.

Allowing these commodities to expire is wasteful, harmful to communities, and at odds with the congressional intent.

Thank you, Rachel, for covering this latest update.

For 1.8 billion people around the world, menstruation is a part of life, and yet it remains a hidden public health crisis. Stigma and inequities continue to prevent women and girls from fully participating in school, sports, work, and daily life.

And, too many people, especially young people, still lack access to the information, products, clean water, sanitation facilities, and health services they need to manage their health with dignity.

PAI is proud to work with our partners around the world to advance education around body literacy that includes menstrual health and hygiene and create a .

PAI joined dozens of organizations in urging Congress to include stronger fiscal guardrails in FY2027 appropriations bills to ensure the administration complies with the law and cannot unlawfully withhold, delay, or redirect funding passed by Congress.

The administration must not ignore congressional intent when it comes to appropriated funding. Given the recent attacks to critical global health and family planning programs, congressional oversight and accountability matter more than ever.

Dear Members of Congress: With the President’s budget request released and Congress fully turning its attention to the Fiscal Year 2027 government funding process, the oversight responsibility of the House and Senate Appropriations committees has never been more important. The Fiscal Year 2026 app...
