NAMB's Fraud Awareness Month is wrapping up this series with something practical for you to use today - a fraud prevention checklist you can put to work immediately.

Fraud thrives on urgency and confusion. It works because clients feel pressure to move fast and trust what looks legitimate.

Your job is to slow that down and replace panic with process. Verify wiring instructions by phone every single time. No exceptions.

Scrutinize every email address, because one changed character can mean everything.

Never send sensitive financial data through unsecured email. Set communication protocols with clients from the very first conversation so they know what to expect and what to question.

And remind them: If something feels wrong, stop.

That pause could save them everything. You are the clarity in a process that scammers are trying to make chaotic.

On April 18th NMLS rolled out significant changes that require mortgage loan originators and other industry users to take action and the deadline to do so is August 31st. Missing it could delay your filings or create compliance issues heading into the 2027 renewal period.

The two key changes impacting you are updated disclosure questions on the MU4 and MU2 forms, and a new way employment history is reported and managed in the system. Both require your attention before that August deadline.
