Today, on National Whistleblower Day, Whistleblowers of America honors Dr. Robert Bauchwitz for his unwavering commitment to scientific integrity.

As a physician and molecular biologist, Dr. Bauchwitz stood up against biomedical research grant fraud. His story exposes a critical flaw in our systems: the persistent retaliation, reputation damage, and legal barriers that whistleblowers face even after their disclosures are proven valid.

To fight back, Dr. Bauchwitz expanded his expertise—becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner and paralegal, to push for independent audits of research misconduct and better protections for truth-tellers in science.

Today, on National Whistleblower Day, Whistleblowers of America shines a light on Major Rick Ward. With 26 years of military service, Rick took his sworn duty seriously. As safety chief at a major ammunition installation, he repeatedly raised alarms about uncertified equipment being used to move live bombs—a direct threat to human life.

When leadership ignored his daily warnings, he took his disclosures to the Office of Special Counsel, where his claims were substantiated. In response, Rick faced job loss, blacklisting, and retaliation aimed at his security clearance.

Rick's story highlights a critical flaw in our system: weaponizing security clearances to silence truth-tellers. Today, we stand with Major Ward and demand real protections for military and civilian whistleblowers alike.

Today, on National Whistleblower Day, Whistleblowers of America recognizes Rebekah Jones for her dedication to open data and scientific ethics.

As a spatial data scientist managing public health surveillance platforms, Rebekah advocated for open access to critical data. When told to manipulate information, she refused, reminding us all that public data belongs to the public.

Despite facing immense scrutiny and retaliation, Rebekah continued building independent tracking tools and advocating for transparent data across government institutions.

Her fight underscores the urgent need to protect scientists, researchers, and public health workers who put ethics first.

Today, on National Whistleblower Day, Whistleblowers of America shines a light on Lt. Melanie Collins.

When stationed aboard the USS Point Loma, Lt. Collins witnessed pervasive sexual misconduct and gender discrimination. Choosing her oath to honor and ethics over institutional compliance, she blew the whistle, facing severe personal and professional retaliation as a result.

Military whistleblowers face unique challenges when speaking out against systemic abuses. Lt. Collins’ story serves as an enduring testament to the bravery required to challenge powerful institutions from within.

Did you know whistleblower protection in America is older than the U.S. Constitution? 📜

On July 30, 1778, ten sailors and marines risked everything to expose the abuse of power by the commander of the Continental Navy. In response, the Continental Congress passed America’s very first whistleblower protection law, declaring it the duty of all citizens to report fraud, abuse, and corruption.

Fast forward to today, and that mission is more critical than ever:

🔹 Emerging Tech & AI: Technical insiders are often the only line of defense in spotting algorithmic risks, privacy violations, and safety cutbacks before public harm occurs.
🔹 Financial Integrity: Programs like the False Claims Act and SEC whistleblower initiatives rely on tips to recover billions in taxpayer dollars every year.
🔹 Public Health & Safety: From industrial safety to healthcare compliance, whistleblowers frequently catch systemic failures before they become national crises.

Speaking truth to power still comes at immense personal, professional, and legal risk. National Whistleblower Day isn't just about celebrating history, it’s about protecting the individuals who protect the public interest.

Today, we honor Joe’s sacrifice, integrity, and ongoing advocacy for truth-tellers across the nation. Learn more about Joe: https://www.whistleblowersofamerica.org/about-us/whistleblowers-speak/joe-carson
