: It's a Recap Moment 💫
To embody a 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆, Dreaming Out Loud facilitated “𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹,” a popular education activity where participants split into two groups to act out the differences between our current food systems economy and one grounded in energy democracy.

As community organizers addressing food apartheid, Sherita Brace and Aysia Moss shared reflections and insights from the perspective of the launch of their new 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 in Ward 8, connecting their work to what a Moral Economy pillar looks like in practice. : In the Moral Economy Workshop, ECC’s DMV Regional Office facilitated a panel discussion with practitioners from the field: Nicole Allen, CEO and President of Operations of Allen-Norris Permitting and Inspections, and Ashante Yussef, CEO and founder of Privé Demeur Inc.

Alongside ECC DMV’s Regional Director, Tabaris Smith, they discussed how they implement a through high-road contracting practices, while highlighting the barriers and challenges CBEs continue to face in the construction industry.

: Emerald Cities' DMV and Civic Infrastructure teams facilitated the 4th ECCB DC workshop on the Moral Economy pillar of the Energy Democracy Scorecard. We kicked off with Dreaming Out Loud, introducing Nanny Henny Helen Burrough – a DC hero who implemented a moral economy in practice through her training schools for Black Women, Cooperative Businesses, and community wealth building programs and services. Grounded in Movement Generation’s “Economy as Management of Home” Framework, we explored how a “moral economy recognizes the dignity of all workers, provides equal opportunity for everyone to support themselves and their families, and create a level playing field for all.”

🏫 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗦 & 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 ⚙️🦾💻
ECC’s ACES program teamed up with our fantastic partner, STEAM Legacy High School in South Gate, to launch the 𝗶𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 for students transitioning from 8th to 9th grade. Under the guidance of Edgar Hernandez Velazquez, ACES Manager, students participated in the 𝗶𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲, diving into engineering concepts for sustainable communities.

Over four days, these future engineers engaged in hands-on projects and interactive lessons, fostering connections and exploring the exciting opportunities in engineering. 🎓

The pilot program was a resounding success, paving the way for future programs that will inspire more young minds to embark on their engineering journeys with confidence. 🌟

𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 🌿 ECC's ACES program was thrilled to partner with the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) for the 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗟𝗔 initiative. This incredible program introduces young women to careers in construction, engineering, and related industries, paving the way for future leaders in these fields.

ACES staff played a crucial role by supporting the event and leading an engaging workshop titled “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗼 𝗪𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝘁?” Students from Augustus Hawkins High School, Jefferson High School, and other schools from South Los Angeles participated. They explored how sustainable design can transform communities, making them healthier and more resilient.
